i recently purchased this hard-drive and i have been having a lot of problems with it...i have loaded up about 700gb of ISO files (movies), and now suddenly the drive is acting weird...when i try to delete a file, it says access denied...

today i clicked on a folder and it is saying access denied and i am not able to open the folder...

i am a complete novice in this...is there a way to fix this? what can i do? i have bought a second 750gb drive, what is the best way to create a back-up...can someone just give me a few pointers...

i dont want to lose my data - i spent hours putting it on the drive...

thanks a ton...

See if you can just drag and drop (copy) the files to the other drive. If you haven't already, reboot your computer too.

Is it FAT32 or NTFS?

Open My Computer, right click the drive and choose properties.

If its NTFS and you dont need any security, then on the same screen (Properties from above) go to Security Tab and click Add, then type in Everyone and click OK, then click on Everyone in the list and select Full Control below and then Click Apply.
Now click Advanced and check the box at the very bottom that says "Replace permissions ...." and click OK/Yes a few times.

That will ensure no matter what computer you use the drive on, permissions are wide open.

Now if its FAT32 then None of that above applies at all and you have a different problem.
Post back here if so.
