Costco has new promotion at
http://www.costcoauto.com/volvo/?&cm_re=1-_-Right_Nav-_-Volvo

If you take their referral and let participating dealer call you - you will get pretty good price on
Volvo S80 (top of the line Volvo): base model (with Sirius radio prep) is $30,500 after all dealer fees and Costco rebates. For this configuration
MSRP is $39,545 (including destination)
invoice is $37,210 (including destination)

Hidden discounts are $4000 marketing support cash to dealer plus probably some portion of holdback (which could be around $1200).
Generally on S80 with Costco referral you probably will get invoice (including invoice cost of all options) minus ~$5,500. Dealer normally charges $500 in dealer fees and Costco gives you back $500 Costco cash card.

Base model has very decent features in it. But you have to check ultimate safety options:

Collision Avoidance Package [must to have] $1,695 $1,458
Blind Spot Information System $695 $598
Personal Car Communicator (PCC)[keyless door open and engine start] $495 $426
Optionally: Front And Rear Park Assist $495 $426
With sirius radio prep it invoices at $40,118

You will get radar controlled cruise control, lane departure warning, blind spot warning - test drive and make sure you will be shown all those features how they work.

Try to get those safety features on any car for ~$34,500.
Also base model for $30,500 if to be re-sold next year with very low mileage will fetch $29,000 on private market (per Edmunds.com) $1,500 depreciation in first year is incredible low for top-of-the-line Volvo.
Be warned that mileage is not that great: 16/24
Check safety rating: they are one of the highest of any car on the market. Must to have car for working mom or dad, for anybody who is getting tired often and doze off when driving. Lane departure alert will hopefully wake you up and adaptive cruise control slow you down if car in front will start breaking.

Seems to be $5.5k off Inv for FL buyers and $4.2k off Inv for CA buyers.

With all due respect; people who participate in FatWallet forums usually seek to save hundred bucks or so on a consumer electronics product (and usually go out of their way to do so), not the people who shell out $30K on a vehicle

...to the above:

Yeah...on products we often would not even consider buying without the feel of a deal. In other words: OP great deal if even only one other fatwallet person is in the market for a car around that price point.

Especially not on a rebadged Taurus. What a stinkburger of a Volvo this is--absolute mediocrity. The Volvo name means nothing anymore.

Hey - I have an idea. If "working mom or dad" is tired, why don't they TAKE A NAP before driving home or NOT DRIVE AT ALL so that the rest of us don't get killed by "working d!psh!t."

I always hated the SUV logic of "Hey, I'll just buy a huge SUV so that I'll be safe." Then someone else ups the ante and buys an International. Before you know it, some idiot is driving a tank down Market St. Why can't people just learn to be better drivers?

Well, a recent thread on the Honda Odyssey had 213 replies. This is a very interesting deal. It takes a lot of small savings deals to equal this kind of savings!

Volvo sucks.....I will little extra and get a 3-series BMW. Even Infinity is better then Volvo.

You will soon see deals for a return ticket to space. I think some one posted that in past....cannot recall. Some help fellow FWer's.

I partially agree, though in a less-aggravated tone... While those alert features can certainly be useful, the way I see manufacturers advertise them seems to send the wrong message "Hey! Buy our car/SUV/truck and you don't have to pay as much attention to the road anymore! Eat, drink, put on makeup... no matter - our safety features will take over once you pass out due to your own irresponsibility."

It is true that advertising crash test rating does not encourage people to crash their cars. However, for a vehicle manufacturer to overemphasize that the car can be driven will less attention from the driver strikes me as irresponsible, even lawsuit-inviting.

Very good deal for those in the market.

what's an example zip code that works? I tried central FL and it was not $30k

Why are you people complaining when a company is going out of its way to protect its customers? Volvo did not ever advertise their cars to be safe to encourage people to drive irresponsibly, they are doing it because the simple fact is that people drive when they shouldnt, nevermind what car they are driving. All Volvo is doing is protecting the driver when an accident happens, and it pretty much is bound to happen.

FYI I am in no way a Volvo fanboy, my family chose a Landrover over the Volvo XC90. But I just think its ridiculous when people are ignorant and bitch about things simply because they dont understand/appreciate it.

OP meant that you have to wait for the dealer to call you. The web site only lists MSRP and he listed all the savings after the Costco referral call from the dealer. It seems that the base model (6 spd I6) here in Texas is MSRP $38,705 (I am not sure if destination is included or not)...

I think OP has a great deal here. Usually, these S80s come in at $40K.

I happen to like Volvos- no other car manufacturer makes bucket seats that are as comfortable and supportive for long distance driving.

OP: Any deals on S40s or other cars?

You could try zip code 33066. How are you trying to get price on zip code (via Edmunds.com)?
You won't get this pricing from any Website - it is not advertised. Go through costco.com

Answering to many people who don't like Volvos: neither do I, but deal is a deal. I am thinking to buy the same safety features from Lexus - base model is way more expensive and package is twice more.
I am driving Lexus LS 430 - there is no comparison between Volvo S80 and Lexus LS. I would not be so optimistic about 3 series - it costs nearly as much as Lexus LS but doesn't give much value except razor-sharp handling.
Get Lexus IS 250 manual with X package - it is under 30,000 and beats 3-series with any sport packages in slalom test by 2 mph (with less noise and harshness). I drove 3-series back to back with Lexus IS and Mercedes C-Class - yes, BMW feels better. If feels better is more important for you (and you don't mind extra noise, harshness) than extra cost to own the vehicle - yes, BMW 3-series is a better vehicle.
BMW 3-series is so overpriced and overhyped in recent years. Yes, it still little bit better... But for little extra dow Lexus LS is so much better than 3-series. Lexus LS handling, acceleration is so good, only BMW 550 is better, but again 550 cost during lifetime is nearly twice of such of Lexus LS. 550 is smaller, its is noisier.
Point is that trying to follow on so touted benchmark regardless of the cost is not universally best solution for everyone.

If I would want to save - I would take Volvo S80 for $30k or Mercedes C-Class (last summer C230 was approaching $25k).

Taurus is close to S80, but it is not the same. I would check on Mercury Montego before buying Volvo S80, Montego is pretty nice vehicle (Taurus is so cheap, actually S80 doesn't feel very upscale inside).

Also, please try to sleep out when you have 0-years old or few years old And 0-years old on your hands. Good luck to catch a sleep or refuse to drive because you are too tired. You will be always tired and always underslept - you would have to wait for 1-2 years to catch on.

You could be proactive and get from costco.com name of participating dealership and name of Costco-certified or participated salesman (not all salesman in dealership are typically dealing with Costco program). Nevertheless Costco recommends you to let them contact you to make sure they will follow to protocol and give you correct Costco pricing. After you will get correct Costco pricing - on some you could negotiate down even little more and still get $500 cash card from Costco. Do request to disclose all invoices on particular car you are buying and all factory incentives. Salesman who was working with me - didn't disclose any factory incentives, which I could complain back to Costco and force him to disclose. Make sure you will visit Edmunds.com and print out all pricing from there.

Edmunds for South Florida:

3.2 4dr Sedan (3.2L 6cyl 6A)
MSRP | Invoice
Optional Equipment $95 | $82
000682 SIRIUS Satellite Radio Preparation

Destination Charge $745 | $745
Total with Options $39,545 | $37,210

Note $4000 marketing support cash to dealer (not to customer).

Only S80 and C70 are included in Costco promotion. BUT you could come with regular Costco pricing for any other vehicle - you might know the bottom line of all invoices and incentives (that dealer will have to disclose to you with Costco program). Then you could negotiate down. I think situation is pretty desperate for Volvo and they are selling new cars only $1500 more than its private party sale price will be one year from now (unless people will start hating Volvo even more and stop buying them, which is some possibility considering S80 mileage of approx. 16/24 ): I got base S80 2008 for 30500 and base S80 2007 is estimated by Edmunds as worth of 29000. It is excellent deal if you could live with Volvo.

alert mods

Do you really have to sacrifice that much in fuel economy to get a "safe" vehicle? 16/24 was bad fuel economy a year ago. Now it is horrible. No wonder they are offering such "great" deals on it. If you can ignore how much you will waste on gas, it might be a good deal.

alert mods

volvo is goimg the way of isuzu

invoice is a stingy 6% off msrp.

alert mods

Yes, 16/24 mileage plus Ford-ish reputation of Volvo are possibly reasons why Volvo is so desperate to sell their S80 cars. If you are planning to put 200,000 miles before you will sell your car and you are most concerned about saving $ - then you might consider Toyota Corolla. Actually very close to S80 is 2008 Mercury Sable: some components are shared between these vehicles and it is $10,000 less and its mileage is 18/28.
Most people do sell their cars on 100,000 mark - hence in Corolla on hwy you will consume approx. 2500 gallons, while in S80 you will be close to 4000 gallons, on Sable - you will be ~3500 gallons.
Corolla owner will save ~$4000 (in current pricing) versus Sable and $6000 versus S80.
Note that new government ratings are little bit coservative in terms that careful driving on hwy will give you better mileage than on the sticker.

You could check US statistics: very approximately 2% of americans end their life dying from auto-accidents. Put on top of this pain for year(s) of broken bones and deductibles you would have to pay more in Corolla versus Sable and S80. Let's do very approx. approximation in saying that your chance to die in S80 is 0.5% if you will drive all your life in S80, while 3% in Corolla. With safety tools of Volvo - probably less than 0.5%.
Mercedes had once a "hidden" campaign asking of how much you value your life. If high - Mercedes is for you.
If you have $ - take Lexus LS or Mercedes S-Class. Try to configure those with Volvo safety features On and look on $price after.
Lexus/Mercedes are well worth every penny for comfort, performance and safety. Volvo S80 is very close for $34,000 with all safety or for $30.5 base.
Mercury Sable is not to be overlooked.

I have Mercury Grand Marquis and it is The safest Mercury/Ford vehicle and it is well worth little extra $ for gas from my point of view.
