probably because it's a refurbished product from a defunct company at a price that it's not hard to find a new tv with the same stats at.

Ditto. I bought two refurbs from the late great Philips Outlet. My plasma is now just about three years old and still works flawlessly. My LCD is now well over a year old, and again, I've never had a problem. Both are great sets, with great pictures.
