Starting 7/12/2008, KeyBank has a new promotion offering iPod or iTouch dependent on what kind of KeyBank account you will open.

Here is the link to the detail KeyBank offer detail

To get free iPod, you need to open a Key Express Free Checking Account with minimum balance of $50, one debit card transaction and two direct deposits or automated payments. Can not close this account within 180 days.

To get free iTouch, you need to open at least a Key Privilege® Checking (if the combination of all accounts has a balance of $25,000, there will be no monthly fee. Otherwise, $25 monthly), one debit card transaction and two direct deposits or automated payments. can not close this checking account for 180 days.

Hmmm.. Doesn't seem to apply in CA.

What's Automated Payment anyway? It's not Bill Pay (that is excluded for this promo)

If you have an existing key account, you won't be qualified for the offer.

"Offer available to individuals and business entities without an existing checking account at KeyBank as of 7/12/08. Offer not available to individuals or business entities that have opened a KeyBank checking account in the last 12 months. "

Just wondering what do they mean by "that have opened a keybank checking account in the last 12 months"... I got on the ipod deal last year, opened an account in 7/07 (soft pull only -- 1st time key customer back then), closed account in 2/08. If I plan to open a new account in 8/08, do I qualify (>12 months) because they said I couldn't open an account in the last 12 months... okay, I opened in 7/07. So... yes??

I just wonder about that too. I opened KeyBank account in 2006 for the free iPod deal, and closed it just a few days ago on 7/8/2008. So, as of 7/12/2008, I don't have KeyBank checking account and didn't open a KeyBank checking account in last 12 months. I think I will give it a try.

"Not all accounts available in all states."

Just so everybody knows the value of ipod will be reported in the 1099-Int. Remember that your are getting the ipod for atleast 30% of the cost(higher your tax bracket, higher you pay).

Talked to two keybank associates. They said since I recently closed keybank account, I won't be eligible for the ipod. But since keybank appreciates your business and I am always welcomed to contact their account specialist on any questions regarding opening a new account. LOL... no thank you without ipod.

So basically this deal is only available to those who haven't had any key checking in the past 12 months. Never mind, I'll just get an extra ipod next year (maybe they have a better version then). But anyway, still a good deal even if it's reported on 1099.

So this is a good deal for those of you with businesses.

Their offer for the ipod Touch, requires qualifing for one of their premier accounts and depositing 25000 in it.

The business account, to qualify for an ipod touch, requires just 5000 to avoid fees. (and first two months of fees are waived).

This is a great return on my money, I signed up right away.

For any of us who have fideity mysmartcash accounts, or any other accounts that make it easy to do ACH push/pulls, I think those transfers qualify as an automated transfer.

called and talked to their rep, the lady said the offer is not offered to residents of California!

I would doubt anyone who said that knew this, but I could guess with some reliability that they would be the cheapest/smallest memory size of each iPod. And if for some reason Apple shifts its market offering and the smallest size is no longer sold by Apple then you can probably expect the previous smallest size (sheapest), not the new smallest size.

Actually you can get away with just parking $2500 there. Take a look at the https://onlinea.key.com/uap/SvltKdd?mode=10&id=KCOCHT-CBNM&sqkl# account.

For anyone sells stuff on Amazon, Amazon payment counts as direct deposits. Just change the payment option to use your new keybank account. Make sure at least two of the payments are more than $100.

Automated payments are those scheduled payments such as automated paying your utility bill using this checking account.
