doesnt sound too good either, unless you travel lots... its domestic only and you still pay surcharges, taxes, etc. at the end, you'd have to be a frequent flyer to benefit.

Could be good if you're a college student. I usually have to fly 8 times in a year getting to and back from college.

I suggest this post be moved to Finance Forums (where it will be taken apart by the more CC savvy people there since these "companion tickets" are a scam.)

If you're flying back 8 times a year why bother with a companion ticket program. Get a card that has better miles program and perks. I don't think you fly back home those 8 times with someone. I'd get one of those cards that can get you entry into those airline lounges of course they have a high annual fee but for the amount you travel that's worth it.

The Citi PremierPass Elite card is best for traveling .. (you can also get a free companion ticket) without spending $500

You apply for a credit card, then spend $500 and ONLY THEN do they send you the terms and conditions for your free companion tickets????

Perhaps it's only good for any Tuesday that falls on the 5th, 15th or 25th of the month with a round trip that includes two weekends. This is a good post with what COULD be a great deal, but I would dig in and find out some more particulars before getting this card. I also wonder what expires on Oct 27. Is that the last day to get free companion tickets or is that the last day to get the credit card that provides free companion tickets for some longer period? I checked the linked website and couldn't find the answer there. Maybe they also send you that information after you spend your first $500.

good luck all.

and good luck getting a flight where there is availability. These "programs" DO NOT offer you companion flights on the flights you want to take only on the limited flights they have availability.

Do you have any important factors to pass along regarding the advantage of this card? Thank you.

The big question is what airlines typically have their full fare rate closest to their discount fares?

Remember, they would make buy full fare and not discounted fare for the free companion ticket. They haven't listed the participating airlines here. This only makes sense for business travelers who fly with their spouses. This kind of deals are junk otherwise.

I did one of these deals offered by chase a couple years ago. The ticket prices through their authorized travel agent were more then double what could be obtained through discount fares on the web (by at least $50 or more). While I did not run into any of the restrictions others have mentioned in terms of when you can travel, it was still a horrible deal.

Not so fast. Spirit Incentives also administers travel companion programs for such upscale cards as Bank of America Accolades and Citi Chairman card. As I've previously posted, Spirit Incentives can be a pain to deal with but in many circumstances it can save you quite a bit of money. I have the BOA Accolades card and just last week spoke with Spirit Incentives regarding yet another pair of companion tickets -- the lowest price out there is a little over $800/person and Spirit offered two tickets to me for the total price of about $1,100, which saves about $500 between two tickets. Not bad at all.

Again, you have to look at the specific program rules that accompany each card and your travel pattern to determine whether the specific companion travel program is a good deal for you. I just wouldn't automatically label Spirit Incentives a scam, since, for all their numerous issues, they are very far from a scam.

In general given the way the chips are falling in place for air travel especially in US
(from travel agents being sqeezed to cut rate pricing on airline websites) it is impossible
to imagine how any company can just give free companion tickets without overcharging for
the first ticket - the good old days of extra $ cushion in pricing that can be shared
anywhere in the chain (airline, travelagents, websites etc) are almost gone.

Can you be more specific about the tickets you bought (ie. from where to where and when)
so we get some idea if this is really worth it ?
(if it is within US $800 it seems pricey and even for hawaii/europe it seems just about
the "normal good deal").

Perhaps I'm just an idiot, but I would have appreciated "Airline" in the title.

hahaha,
I think your understanding of free companion tickets would go along well with the super8 motel , $8 specials!

These "companion" tickets become more valuable IMO as airfares rise. What's not included is the fuel surcharge, which may be quite expensive these days and are not free for the companion. Still, these free tickets are a hot commodity (just got our Delta companion ticket in the mail today), regardless of airlines they are still hot!!

In fact, these are hotter than frequent flyer miles...try redeeming for an award ticket these days

This may be the only way to fly at a deeply discounted price other than waiting for ticket promotion specials.
