anyone heard of this? curious if so as to where you heard about it.

i've been waiting months for this movie to come out as i thought it would help ron paul and educate the masses. too late to help him get votes, but certainly a movie that all americans, especially voters, should see. rp is in it, as well as warren buffet, greenspan, and some other big names. it follows david walker (former comptroller general of the usa) on his fiscal wake up tour. he's basically saying we cannot continue down the financial path we are on. the movie was made by agora financial and bought by pete peterson, who threw a billion behind it's message and pulled walker away from the government to try and get this message out. the movie is supposed to be able to hold the interest and teach the average person about all of our defecits. it is being shown across the us ONCE currently - august 21st, a thursday, at 7pm cst. it will be followed by a live panel with buffet, peterson and walker. the movie was invited to, and won awards at, the 2007 sundance film festival. i advise going and bringing all friends and family alike, especially anyone that is economically ignorant or politically apathetic. the guys who made the movie are mostly libertarian / republican kind of guys, but they tried to keep the movie as free from political opinion or blame as possible.

Don't assume that people that disagree with the message of this movie are simply uneducated. I think David Walker probably means well, but I have disagreed with just about everything he has said in the past 7 or 8 years. His fiscal wake-up tour has been full of inaccuracies and distortions, and is a perfect example of baseless fear mongering.

Warren Buffett, CEO of Berkshire Hathaway;
William Niskanen, chairman of the CATO Institute;
Bill Novelli, CEO of AARP;
Pete Peterson, senior chairman of The Blackstone Group and chairman of the Peter G. Peterson Foundation; and
Dave Walker, president & CEO of the Peter G. Peterson Foundation and former U.S. Comptroller General

I highlighted people and organization I am familiar with and respect.

when i refer to anyone uneducated i mean people who simply do not know jack about economics or have been paying attention to anything. not that disagreeing with something makes them so.

i believe they are just trying to state the facts - such as this costs us y. it is still up to the viewer to decide whether y is too much, whether the government should expand y, how the government should fund y, or whether the government should be doing y in the first place.

i would be interested in seeing disagreements you have with walker and his information, i give him a lot of respect and credibility for what he's been doing and where he is coming from.

even if one disagrees with the movie i still certainly think there is value in seeing it. i don't agree with sicko but i have certainly seen the movie, there is still value in it.

We consume more than we produce as a country. We made more promises of social benefits than we can make good in the future. If that is the message of the movie I'd agree with it.

It is human nature to delay dealing with tough decisions as much as possible, much like the student not wanting to finish his homework. I am not sure what solutions the film recommends or if they will actually change anything.

The future will bring lower dollar, higher inflation, and higher taxes (which is only a problem for those who pay taxes).

ETA: I was wondering about the AARP guy, what is his agenda? I thought the constituents of the AARP are chiefly beneficiaries of the mortgaging the future policies.

ETA: hello "magika", still lurking? Thanks for the red btw.

I'm sure you know more about the manner by which the U.S. Government manages its books and nuances its fiscal statistics better than David Walker.

Not.

Just put it on your credit card and forget about it.

...as i thought it would help ...educate the masses ...but certainly a movie that all americans, especially voters, should see.

Well, there better be lots of skin and/or action in it if you expect the masses to attend. Man I can just see Greenspan with an uzi, kicking ass and taking names!

That's as good as money sir, those are IOUs. Go ahead and add it up every cents accounted for.

We are all going to pay the real national debt off, which is closer to 55 trillion, not 9 trillion, as the government claims, either through dramatically higher taxes, massively higher inflation (long term, we may be in for a bout of deflation over the next 12-18 months), massive cuts in government spending (including Social Security, Medicare, etc.), or a combination of all three.

There's soon to be one working adult for every three retirees in the United States. It's an upside down pyramid.

This film is not alarmist nor does it overstate the problem we face.

If anything, it's too late.

Maybe the government should read the IBJanky thread?

Come on man, don't you know the armchair economists on FWF are the true economic experts!?! LOL.

I mean, damn, "cheEzeDaWg" has it all figured out. You just have to look at our current debt to GDP ratio to historical levels! Ignore the fact that it doesn't factor in medicare spending (which was created in the 60's, SS, any other entitlements (and let's not mention personal debt)) and we're doing great! Lord knows, with a name like "chEezeDaWg," yo, that's instant credibility.

i think they suggested at 12 something, i got mine for 12.75. i suppose the live simulcast thing may have something to do with that. if you get the subscription to the agora newsletter (free by forwarding receipt) you get a little more for your money. that is normally priced at $100.

The thing with credit card and the easyness of loan is it creating a huge supply of demand which result in an hyperinflation and it just killed cash/currency face value. So yes, plastic are better than paper but too need regulated and back by uhhh you know. So what happen right now is the regulations being implemented to protect the economy from inflation.
Yes, I am an economist privately educated at no ordinary institution nor even the ordinary Ivy league institution. If you really want private, it called for hired instructors to your home. Hehehe. Look at my nick and you know it is serious stuffs. Butter reduce friction and is edible.

What do you mean by "threw billions behind it's (sic) message"? I guess that's why they want $18 for a ticket at my local theater.
