Yes, they got most of our electronics, some jewlery, a shotgun, and chocolate pudding (stupid kids). They didn't take my AOR credit cards, but they did take some AMEX gift cards. And of course dumped everything on the floor looking for hidden cash or whatever.

Not necessarily kids. Clearly it was Bill Cosby.

I'd say get a new shotgun.

Sorry to hear about that.

Put a sticker on your house: THERE IS NO CASH IN THE HOUSE, OWNER IS MARRIED

call the police? Report to Insurance company? Clean Up? Electrified Fence? An Alarm system?

No clue what exactly you are looking for here.

Don't forget to change locks if they made off with any backup keys.

Find those bastards and kick their asses

When it happened to us I bought signs on eBay and put them up outside. I did consider just stealing some, but ended up deciding that would be ludicrous. They work well. Last month the police arrested a burglar at my next door neighbors house. Caught him in the act. I was out cutting the lawn and it was a pleasure to see how they executed the arrest so quickly with total professional execution.

Did you get insurance, better locks and an alarm system?

Police, check.
Insurnace company, making a list will call tommorow. Assuming it is worth reporting Homeowner's Insurance Question - To Claim or Not to Claim
Clean up, check.

Put fraud alert on credit report?

LoL. Sadly they bypassed the locks with the classic blunt object to a window. I should have gone for the big dog.

Sorry to hear that, another reminder for me to backup my laptop and hide all valuables

Do call the police so that they can dust for fingerprints. My apartment was broken into 15 years ago. The dumba$$ with a criminal record left fingerprints on the patio door from which he took apart and entered. He has been paying me retribution since 1997.

communicate with your local sheriff office. Call them every 2/3 weeks. Sometimes the burglars work in a team, stash the stolen items and sell them slowly instead of going to a pawn shop right away. I guess check the pawn shops too then.

Put a sign, "Joe Horn is watching you."

You need one of those signs on your window... "Protected by Smith and Wesson". Get some cameras around the house too. But nothing compares to a good ole shotgun. Really hits the spot...

My Dad said recently, when economic times get tough on people, crime begins to increase. I'm not sure if this will help, but to find a bit of closure, you could imagine the burglers were starving, out of work, homeless, and a lot worse off than we are. It doesn't make what they did right, but you might find it easier to overcome knowing you inadvertantly and unwillingly helped someone who needed helping.
