I think I know the answer already, but I may as well ask. I don't need a receiver (or a dvd player, really), but I do need speakers. How are the speakers that come with this system? Would it be worth it to buy this for the speakers, or would I be better off spending the money on speakers alone?
All around this is a pretty good system. No upconverting or HD type DVD, but it's got a 605 and the 7 speakers and decent sound sub. If you can get it for that price I'd say do it. It's not going to sound like a full towered speaker setup, but it's pretty good. At least I think it is. And the 605 had HDMI, ipod dock and some other nice stuff. Steal at that price.

You seem to be referring to the HT-SP908, which I would buy without hesitation at this price. The 904 is 5.1, not 7.1, using the HT-R557 receiver, rather than the TX-SR605.
Sell the receiver and DVD player independently on craigslist and you have a free speaker setup.

Sounds pretty good, but I'm not convinced that I could get that much for the receiver and dvd player.
This is a great price but know that the HDMI is just pass through and you need a separate audio connection from the player. This does not work if you have PS3. When PS3 is outputting HDMI then it can not send the audio on optical out. So in that case you can not use this system. The only way is to use the audio out from tv and plug it in the receiver. That may lower the overall quality compared to what ps3 produces.

a bit off-topic, but does Onkyo have any HTs with S-video inputs? I've browsed around ~half the models on the ShopOnkyo site and didn't see any this time ... I recall seeing some in the past.

I didn't look high enough up the $$ ladder ... looks the the SR800 has S-video I/O. Too $ for me

don't have this receiver but, I'm running PS3 with hdmi to tv, and optical to receiver, you can set this up in the audio setting in the PS3 menu.

This is just what I am looing for but cant find any on the site. Please let me know if anyone sees this deal or has one they want to sell. I could go with just the receiver as I already have speakers.
