I've been looking for a deal on a PCI (Not PCIe) Tuner card since I use my leftover parts to build my mythtv boxes. Found this decent deal for a tuner with QAM and ATSC support that works in linux. This card works for Mythtv and Media Center Edition.

Comes with a remote but even people in linux were complaining about it but supposedly works with some patches.

Might be a common knowledge, but just in case - QAM feature is not available under Windows Media Center. You will still be able to see over-the-air HD channels if you have antenna.

Bundled TotalMedia app supports QAM but in terms of usability could do better, especially with the program guide.

Thanks OP, got one. Trying to build a mythtv based on mythbuntu. OP do you now if this card is readily supported out of box by mythtv?

Does this work as well as the Hauppauge 1600 tuner or the ATI HDTV wonder? Any comparisons out there?

And by the way, are there any hacks out there to make QAM work in Media Center? I believe there are with other cards... Not sure if it's card specific or not.

I heard there was a hack but I don't use MCE so I'm unsure.

At worst you need to do this:
4.1 If you are using a KWorld ATSC 115 on kernels before 2.6.24, you need to force proper recognition by adding the following lines to /etc/modprobe.conf. (card=90 forces it to be treated just like an ATSC 110)

alias char-major-81 videodev
alias char-major-81-0 saa7134
options saa7134 card=90 disable_ir=1

By no means am I an expert on this, but The Green Button recently posted Hauppauge beta drivers for unencrypted QAM support in Media Center. Supports the 1250, 1600, 1800, and 2250. Check it out here -- also mentions that AVerMedia has drivers out.

Besides these two manufacturers and the HD HomeRun, I don't believe anyone else has released drivers. I actually own a K-World ATSC dongle, but am heavily debating replacing it in light of these developments.

Edit: Also worth mentioning that the WinTV 1250 was recently $40 at Circuit City, and is currently $50 at Fry's. Newegg has the AVerMedia Bravo for $51 AR.

This is a great price on an ATSC/QAM tuner for Myth if anyone is interested. I have basically the same tuner (ATSC-110, earlier rev) and it just works all the time.

Good thing this doesn't have rebates, because Kworld sucks otherwise.

I also have the atsc-110 earlier rev. and I am not impressed. First off there is no onboard hardware decoding such as the better quality cards. Second, the actual tuner is a budget Philips 713x used in cheap tuners that can be had for $10 on eBay. Thirdly, I have never had any success getting unencrypted qam channels from comcast. Fourthly, the atsc tuner isn't that sensitive. I have a pretty good hdtv antenna in my attic and I am minutes away from NY and I still can't get all the networks such as NBC in HDTV. I would rate this card a 1.5 out of 10. I would give it a 3 if Kworld would have at least honered their rebate. I will never buy a Kworld product as long as I live.

By the way, at the time of this writing, price is up $79.99. Although normally a fan of the egg, this sort of giant price jump kind of irks me. If they could sell them at $34.99 with no rebate (and even if that was just a blowout price at their cost or a little less) then they're charging much more of a markup than I think their customers expect of them at $79.99.

There's always mixed reviews of the compatibility w/ MCE (especially 2005), but for $37 shipped (w/ tax) I'm going to give it a shot. Thanks OP.

anyone who bought this and received it was wondering if it was any good, i use my computer for everything i dont have a tv and wanted to get ota HD channels. was this any good or no?

should be fine, mine works great in linux and I get many hd qam channels over cable. The biggest issue you will have with OTA ATSC is your antenna.

Antennaweb will show you what type of antenna and what position you need to get which channels
