Not sure why these iHome thingies are so popular. I got one for my wife (I think the IH8) at Linens n' Things when there was a deal. The clock actually loses minutes here and there over the course of a few weeks -- what kind of clock radio can't accurately tell time? The date seems to show up sometimes and then disappear. The UI is odd. The sound is good, but not great.

Just FYI. I'd actually buy another if a really good deal came along, but I just can't figure out why everybody else seems to be much happier with them.

My guess is that maybe you got a bad one? Mine (iH7) has never had issues keeping time and no issues displaying the date.

My only issue (which is by design) is the bright backlight under dark display characters. This was modified on the iH9, and is now more like a typical clock radio.

My wife has an IH8 and I have an IH9. Both are excellent clock radios with great iPod docking capabilities -- neither lose any time whatsoever. The date is always properly displayed. However, I much prefer the IH9 due to its new features, over the IH8.

JK - What are your thoughts on the IR remote on the iH9 versus the RF on the iH8? That's one piece that keeps me from upgrading now. Did you look at the XtremeMac Luna at all?

And FWIW... I'm a bit concerned that you and your wife need separate alarm clocks (both with dual alarms), but I suppose that's another story for another time.

The way we use our iHome's, there is really no difference between the RF/IR remotes. Our iHomes are on our bedstands, so they're in easy line of sight. I have no problem with IR -- as long as I aim it generally toward the iHome, it picks up the command.

As for different clock radios? We wake up at different times and have VERY different tastes in music AND, we both want our iPods charged and ready to go

I did not consider the Luna -- I wanted to buy locally and hear it before I purchased it. The iHome sounds REALLY good.

My daughter is wanting something like this to take to college. However the footprint size is something she needs to consider. Does anyone have the dimensions of the IH9?

I couldn't find the iH9 dimensions, but my iH7 is 10 x 6 x 3 inches. Probably very close.
