Attention Florida Sunpass Users and people who never got one because it was too expensive...

The mini sticker is smaller than a Credit Card and as thin as anything you would put on your windshield. (pictured attached below)

The older big ass box you had to carry around was expensive so many people never bought it. Keep in mind you do save 25% on tolls with a sunpass. $1.00 tolls become $.75 cents!

BEFORE The Sticker deal:

$24.99 for the unit
$25 minimum account balance to start
-----------
$50 total out of pocket to get a New sunpass and Account.

NOW:

$4.99 for the sticker
$10 Minimum balance
$-5 credit towards balance on purchase of sticker
---------------------------------
$10 for a brand new sunpass account!

**Existing customers with accounts also are eligble for the $5 credit

New SunPass Mini Sticker transponder now available at Publix, Navarro and Sedano's.
Direct Link to more info: Program Details for the PDF.
and the official sunpass website: Sunpass.com

P.S another small benefit it only works once you put it on, you cant remove it and put it on another car, so you cant get yours stolen ( sunpass has been stolen by Valets before) So its also anti-theft, and it comes to being free with the $5 credit so getting a new one when your 3-year lease is up is no big deal.....

If you get Sunpass and have EZ Pass, are you covered for a trip from Keys to Maine? (All East Coast, trip on I-95)

i saw this on the news couple days ago. They said mini sun pass is currently not working in Orlando on e-pass roads. did they just fix it?

that's a good question, I don't know. So if you are using in the Orlando area, heads up on this point.

The list is based on the traditional transponder Sun Pass (the sticker will eventually work in Orlando, but may not yet be valid)

Just about I guess. Then you can read Pedro's South of the Border signs for 600 miles and have a great road trip! If only gas were a $1 a gallon again....

I'm heading to Orlando in my car for a week vacation next month. Any Orlando/Florida resident who could tell me if this would save me any money, would be appreciated. I'll be drinving in from South Carolina and heading out via Destin.

Thanks

Need to know if this is valid on the Orlando Expressway toll roads (417, 528, 408, etc). If so, good deal.

Tolls were supposed to pay for the highway/roadways in a specified amount of years. Instead they became a big profiting business. I will pass, I would rather it wasn't something I had to stick on the windshield.

Few things from the PDF:
- The $5 credit expires in 30 days (edit: never mind on this one. The offer expires in 30 days not the credit)
- According to the PDF link above, this only works with SunPass whereas the old one works on any toll road. So the answer to the above question is it won't work on most Orlando toll roads because I think they all use EZPass instead of SunPass.
- The old one beeps whereas this one doesn't when toll is deducted from your a/c.
- See the PDF, it has an interesting comparison of the old one and the new minpass.

From PDF said:SunPass Mini cannot be hand-held or moved
from car to car. It must be permanently mounted
to the windshield or it won’t work, because the
windshield acts as an antenna
. Once removed,
the Mini will no longer function and cannot be
reattached to the windshield.

I call BS on windshield working as antenna. Not being able to switch to another card is a slight pain imo.

Since it's effectively free, you can just get one for each car.
I think the big deal here is to eliminate theft. You'd probably bend it so much removing it that it won't work, kinda like bending those anti-theft stickers disbles them.

IMO the dealbreaker is not working on Orlando e-pass roads. Unless you're sure you'll never go to Orlando, it's much more convenient to have one transponder that will work all over the state.

Does this thing really work as an antenna, or does the system just read the barcode instead of using radio waves?

Just to confirm - it is currently no good in Central Florida. WESH-TV did a story on these last week when they went on sale; they will eventually but not at this time.

Actually when these went into use in 1992 (and for many years) in the Orlando area, they were free, you only needed to use a credit card or prefund your account. I never could understand why everyone didn't get one at that time. Later when the various systems (E-Pass, Sun Pass, etc.) connected, the Expressway Authority started charging because people from other parts of the states were just getting the free ones up here instead of paying $25.

The E-Pass can also be used at MCO parking garage and some private parking facilities around town.

Not all of the old ones beep, mine does not, nor does it have the indicator lights that the new ones have.

I agree that the "anti-theft" feature is just a red herring to keep people from buying one and switching them in cars or loaning to guests. I can't believe there was every much of a theft problem with these. It takes a couple minutes on the phone to have the transponder rendered useless, it's not like they can be cloned like a stolen cell phone.

Personally, I like not sticking anything on my windshield, I keep the current one in the center console and it works fine; I know many people who just hold them up when they go through a booth.

It CAN be moved, someone just needs to figure out how system operates and hack it and post youtube video. it may be sunpass blowing smoke up consumers or it may communicate with gps or something. it can be done, justsomeone smart enough to figure it out.

We also pay no state income tax. I think it evens out a little.
