OK, here goes... Be gentle, its my first post. Target is advertising an Olevia 32" 720p LCD HDTV for $529 (regular $579). Not a big deal however, ad states that this TV comes with a built in DVD player. Target made a mistake as this TV does not have a built in DVD player and as a result is substituting the 32" Westinghouse with a built in DVD player for the same price ($529). I know its not a great name in LCD's but I bought one as a second set. We recently purchased a Sharp 52" Aquos 1080i for our living room so didn't want to spend a lot on a second set. I think this is a good deal. Also, keep in mind if you open a new Target credit card you take an additional 10% off. I did this and my total was around $515.00.

There is a sign when you walk in that states they are substituting it. My store is in South Setauket, Long Island. Hopefully they are doing this all over.

Nice post.
How is the Westinghouse TV? Good quality, sound, etc? What is the information on the Westinghouse so I can look up some reviews.
Thx OP

Sharp doesn't sell 52" 1080i TVs. You have a Sharp 52" 1080p TV.

I do NOT know this particular model but my friend was all set to purchase a Westinghouse 42" LCD back in Dec based upon reviews online. When I went to the store to shop for myself I saw it and was VERY disappointed. Not that I expected Samsung quality but something decent. Called him and he came down took and wound up cancelling his online order.

Please go check it out for yourself. It is no deal if you are unhappy.

This must be the Westinghouse SK-32H590D 32-Inch LCD HDTV with Built-In DVD Player. I bought one and find the picture quality to be excellent. It's always a personal preference with video displays but I like this (better color saturation) than the Sharp Aquos units that are so popular.

How times change.

I remember when White/Westinghouse was a top of the line highly respected brand.

Also, Zenith, Tappan, Sunbeam......

I had a 32" Westinghouse that I bought from Bestbuy. Sold it cause it got a bad burn image (big black line) on the right side of the screen. This was a bad experience for me and was just easier to sell for cheap than to deal with BestBuy's warranty stuff. Not saying this is the same TV, but just be careful.

Hmmm this has a LOT of green - is this a good deal? The TV they are substituting is no big deal, is it? $515 for a tv that costs like $560? Hmmmm

Westinghouse HDTVs are hit or miss; some models are amazing for the price. Check AVSforums for the threads regarding the 37'' model; I personally have the 37'' 1080P model. Its great for the price. I paid sub $1000 2 years ago and it was worth every penny. Its not going to compete with a Samsung or anything, but its great for less than a grand.

Don't forget Bell and Howell, Alpine, Cadillac, etc. A LOT of name brands sell out due to cheap knock offs and end up being cheap late night informercials, lower end quality or out of business completely. Sad how capitalism run a muck can ruin decent name brand merchandise sooner or later.

Ah well.. in for 2 or 3

It's just my opinion, but whether or not you think Westinghouse's lcd's have a good picture quality is any good depends on whether or not poor black levels bother you. HD pops nice, colors look great, pc use is fine. But the blacks aren't very good. I've found that this tends to bother people or not. If not, nice deal.

I'm not sure why you're getting the red. Maybe because you seem to be attributing this fault to Westinghouse in particular, when in reality, it applies to EVERY single budget LCD panel out there; pathetic black levels particularly in low light scenes (in mixed light scenes, black levels look fine. But any LCD can do that well).

Yes, and I remember when "Japanese" and "Korean" brands equaled junk. Now they have the "Best in Class" distinction and American products are seen as inferior. That's what happens when we get complacent and take our eye off the ball.

I had considered buying a Westinghouse TV, but after checking I found that they get consistently poor marks in Consumer Reports. Still a reasonable price for a 32" LCD with DVD player. Green from me OP.
