Can you make it run XP? I'm still not sure most reviews on the bestbuy site suggest you cant or that its hard to find drivers. They also complain this thing picks up tons of finger prints because its a glossy screen.

you can always install XP on ur own..but that would void the warranty though

How is Gateway's quality compares to say Dell, Sony, Toshiba, Acer, etc? Are their laptops reliable?

I purchased a similar (more memory, bigger harddrive)Gateway a couple of weeks ago, I was immediately disappointed by the very tinny sound from the speakers. I thought about returning for a refund, but it developed a charging system problem and that made the speaker issue moot. It was returned on BB's recommendation. I chose not to get an exchange. (still looking)

$450 if you sign up for internet service. Using not my real name or address I printed out a confirmation form, took it to the store and got $100 discount. No email, phone, address, or credit confirmation.

In OC the District BB has 13 left. Will return tonight and buy a second one when the daytime sales guy is gone.

Where do you see the info on the $100 discount? I don't see it. All I see is an offer for a gift card for signing up with QWEST.

Not using my real name or address, I obtained a credit card and just got a nice home theater system that I'll never have to pay for - YAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!! Oh, wait, crap, that's called fraud.

Don't worry, $100 obtained by theft through false pretenses is probably only a misdemeanor in your state. You probably won't do any time.

LOLOLOL

What world do you live in? The terms clearly state you can cancel at any time and any time for me was before I even wasted their time coming out. You know what Comcast did when I called? They offered me the internet service for ONE THIRD the price listed on the promo for SIX months if I didn't want to cancel.

For my second purchase at a neighboring Best Buy I signed up online and called to cancel 5 minutes later. Said it was a mistake I don't need it. Same offer, please take it for 6 months at $15.99/mo. Declined, coupon still works. I suppose in your world that's fraud too.

Gateway is about the same as the cheap Toshibas. Dell, Sony and Acer are higher quality. I have seen more Gateways crap out in their first or second year of service mostly due to them using extremely cheap and usually underpowered power supplies.

I like the specs but it doesn't have S-video, DVI, or HDMI. How come more laptops don't come standard with tv connections?

sidenote: When I went to BB, this laptop was surrounded by a couple different groups of college girls. Guess this is the VW Jetta of laptops.

Cheap laptop = more money for bars, shoes, purses, etc. Women don't care about computers.

I bought a Gateway laptop and I am not too happy about it. I loved the Toshiba that I had but that is like comparing apples to oranges. My main complaint is that the battery lasts no longer than 1-1 1/2 hrs. I do not know much about the Dell's laptop except that our company uses them. The Co-workers talk about 2-3 hours on battery. My friend has a Dell and that last a long time too. From what I understand I heard that Gateway also uses inferior components. I don't have first hand knowledge on that though.

Go Bears!
