Please don't private message me over something as pointless as a rating. I negged your message because in order to get a "free" 500GB (not 640GB, like in this topic) hard drive, you have to take a hit to your credit. In addition, many, if not most, consumers do not qualify for Discover or AMEX, so they would not even be eligible for that "deal".

There are also more valuable incentives for new credit lines that exceed the $100 value of that deal, especially if you have credit good enough to qualify for a Discover card.

First of all, a FICO score is not the only credit score. Each bureau has a credit score, plus there are FAKO scores, and several other, similar credit scoring systems used by banks and corporations. Secondly, any hard pull, or inquiry, on your credit affects your credit and credit score. Some pulls are more harmful than others, depending on which report they pull, and how many current hard pulls are on the credit report pulled. Furthermore, there are many better deals for opening new lines of credit. Want just a few examples?

There are many cards that offer upto $250. So free 500GB is luke warm at best
For instance, AMEX gold with free first year annual gives you $250 back when you spend $1...so $249 CASH is better than 500GB.

Not worth opening and closing a card.
