$250 blu-ray player or a $150 high end upconvert Toshiba DVD player. It is a tough one but I have go to with blu-ray player.

BR's finally capitulating & admitting there is no market north of $250?
Is this a case where a tree falls in the woods & no 1 cares?

alert mods

Are there any major differences between the S300 and S350?

alert mods

I know it's not the best blu-ray player out there but for the price it's nice quality and you can update the firmware. For the average person this is a great deal on a blu-ray player.

you forgot to mention you get a free blu-ray dvd too.

Like all new technology, Blu-ray is finally recovering R&D costs therefore allowing them to start lower prices.

They could have always used the HDDVD strategy and their players would now be worth $50....

(and I own BOTH formats)

Thanks I will add that!!!

The price drop is a welcome move by Sony.

$249 is still way up there, IMO. If this IS indeed the future of entertainment on the supposedly only prevailing format, why not make it affordable ? But of course, $249 is Sony's idea of affordable. And what about $30 street price on every new BR release ? Nah, this price drop only serves to get those buyers that were on the fringe. But for tightwads or people on a budget (like me), its a yawwwnnnn, call me when you announce the $99 MSRP, Sony.

I have a ps3 and i rarely use the online feature on a blu-ray movie. To me, sound and picture quality are the most important. If extra contents are important to you than you should save more money or wait for a better price. Although I must admit that i miss HDDVD. Without competition, I don't know how long it will take for blu-ray to lower their price.

I agree with laidbacklarkin. I have an avchd camcorder, and I understand I can dump the files on a bluray player. Hopefully by Christmas we will be talking 100

Don't think they will get down to $100 by Christmas. I only posted this for people who want one now and for now this is a good price. Sure all electronics go down in price when you wait but by the time it does technology is on to something new. Thats just how it it is which is very frustating after your forked out the money and something comes out new and better for a lower price. Thats called electronics....

check your local Target store, they are clearing them out for $196 plus tax.

I'll be honest with you all.. I bought this player and returned it... when playing BR movies, it was slugish to FF and REW. Unbearable. It all seems so unresponsive it will drive you nuts.

I ended up following a friend's suggestion, and bought a PS3 instead. I'll never look back.. the PS3 is an absolutely fantastic BR player. I don't care about the games though.

Checked availability the Targets that did have them far and few in-between were $272.99 plus tax. Don't forget Amazon has 30 day price guarantee.

I can second this. I didn't buy it as I already have a PS3, but anyone in the Columbus, OH area who needs one can find one at the Target store on E Broad in Reynoldsburg.

Now down to $229 on Amazon.

Also, I just called my local Target and they only carry the BDP-S350 for $399.
