i had this for a few months last year and its an awesome device, watch and record UNENCRYPTED HD channels on any pc, HTPC, worked great with Vista media center, not sure if 2005 MCE supports HD...
until the JACK***ES at comcast encrypted all HD channels.. sold off on flee bay for 35% loss, not too shabby ey...
That is a HOT price for a FANTASTIC device.
This works in either MCE 2005 or Vista MCE to get you unencrypted HD signals (QAM) or over the air signals (ATSC).
Damn, I thought this would work for me, but nope... I want to leave my PC out of the equation....
If I want a device that takes my Cabel company's Local Channels (Unencrypted by Law, and in Hi Def currently in my area), is there any device that I can simply plug my cable coax into it, and output directly from the box via HDMI or Component into my Home Theatre projector?

Cable boxes are $5.00 a month.
Some comcast HD channels are unencrypted.
Ripped from a review to inform the uninformed:
So what good is it? You can use it to pick up digital TV from an antenna or unencrypted QAM (usually network) cable signals, and stream to your computer for watching or recording.
If your computer is not dual-core, it's not powerful enough to watch HDTV with (though it will do OK recording, if you have something else to watch with/on).
Thanks OP in for one ... works great with Elgato eyeTV3 software for Mac OS X !!!

If you don't want to use a PC, you need another device with a QAM tuner (the tuner that lets you watch unencrypted HD channels). Many new LCD/Plasma TVs have them built-in. In your case, you'll need a standalone QAM tuner box. It will look like a cable box or dvd player. It will likely be called a "HDTV receiver" or somethign similar, and also support receiving ATSC (over the air, terrestrial HD) signals. Make SURE the one you buy supports QAM (which lets you tune the free, basic HD signals over the cable line). I did a quick google search and didn't come up with anything, but I know they exist.
So does my local (CA) comcast in my apartment building run encrypted or unencrypted?

Go here and type in your zip code to see what's available. 8VSB is over the air and QAM is over cable,

I've been looking for something like this where they keep track of HD channels. Thanks very much!
Thanks for the post! I've been considering purchasing one of these for the past year. Good price, Great seller!
Just got mine installed and have one bit of information that may be helpful:
If you are using this with MCE 2005 you NEED an analog tuner installed as well. This is a limitation of MCE, as it requires at least one analog tuner.
Ive been using this ever since they came out with this device and I paid $169 plus shipping for it.
It has dual tuners, so you can record from multiple channels, its accessible over network so it doesnt have to be next to your computer which does the recording and its supported by a number of DVR software packages for Windows, Mac And Linux.
You dont need a dual core to record High Def, but to playback you will either need a dual core or a video card that accelerates video decoding.
In my case, My 1.6ghz Core Duo Mac mini with Intel integrated graphics and Win MCE 2005 installed does just fine.
