Anyone with experience with this thing?

I have had this exact model for about 2 years and don't recommend it. Maybe mine is defective but I have had problems with the software and the hardware. I should have exchanged mine a long time ago. I use XP Home but I hear it may work better using the Media Center Edition and different software.

I have the USB version and it works pretty well. Not so sure about the PCI versions. I was able to get this working under Linux a while back... I'm sure the support is much better now. It also runs pretty decently with the Fusion software that comes provided with it.

Guess it's probably best to just stick with the Hauppauge tuners. Hard to beat for price/performance, especially if using 3rd party software.

Not bad... appears to support MythTV under Linux, from what I was seeing.

MythLink

Yep, I was able to get this working a couple years ago. Since MythTV started the whole listing fee structure though, I stopped using it. I'm sure the driver support is better now - I had a fun time getting it to be recognized under Linux

Yeah, I am pondering putting one together. This is an attractive deal though. Why did someone red the deal? It's a really good deal, plus the free antenna. Of course I don't need that, but there's always craigslist.

The DVICO FusionHDTV5 is considered one of the better HDTV cards for Beyond TV and MythTV, but I haven't used one myself.

Off topic - I run a Hauppauge HVR-1600 on my Windows XP box, with GB-PVR as the software. Works great.Got the HVR-1600 @ CC a few weeks back for $59.95, on sale, but it didn't come with an antenna.

On topic - FYI - Those zoomy little HDTV antennas usually run about $25-$30 so on Amazon. All I've needed are cheap rabbit ears where I live.

Somewhat curious that even though they are selling this item, Snapstream does not fully support the remote control or QAM for this tuner with their BeyondTv 4 software.

The DVICO HDTV card was one of the first to support QAM, so I think that's why it's gained a lot of acceptance. Plus they've have had Linux support for a long time, when other companies lagged on that.

Several of the GB-PVR folks use the DVICO and seem pretty satisfied with it. Certainly it would rate better than a Kworld, but not sure how it compares to the Hauppauge.

I had the HD homerun and it was really good quality and was compatable with Beyond.

The only drawback with HD is the files were hugh.

The HD files will be pretty much identical from which ever tuner records them.

I have this thing running on Windows Vista Ultimate x32, and it installed just fine. The software that runs with it is REALLY buggy. We also live on the side of a hill, so the antenna is useless. Media Center doesn't tune QAM yet, so we are stuck using the software that came with it.

Also didn't get Beyond T.V. to recognize the card.

But, we could not find a better option.

Yeah. Was talking about HD in general. Had to use HDTV2DVD to reduce it to DVD.

Been running this the PCI version of this card for over 3 years using Beyond TV and haven't had any issues with it. It's a great deal at that price.

Do you have to do anything special to get Beyond Tv to use it?

It records HD in BeyondTV or just SD?

Nope, it just works with Beyond TV. It was one of the first over-the-air HDTV tuner cards that we added support for. It works pretty well. This page walks through the detailed steps of setting it up:
http://www.snapstream.com/Products/beyondtv/hdtv-setup-center-ota.asp

(it probably has *too* much detail, the main steps are towards the end)

You'll mostly just want to use this to record OTA HDTV, but it'll record analog TV (ie SD) in a pinch as well. The reason I don't recommend it from SD/analog recordings is it doesn't have a hardware encoder and analog TV cards with hardware encoders are always better.

(FYI, I work at SnapStream)
