battery powered sucks. why not have a plug in?

Has anyone ever tried to use one of these? I'm always having trouble with the damn paper towel dispensers in public bathrooms. I think I'd go insane if I had to wave my hand in front of the sensor 10 times before it realized it was there.

I still recommend reading the 1-star reviews. It seems like the gizmo works for a couple of months and then magically transforms to a regular $15 trash can.

We've had this in our kitchen for over a year now and absolutely love it! As a matter of fact, it recently broke (plastic gear snapped by accident) and we immediately ordered another from Overstock. I paid $82 included shipping If times were a little easier I'd buy this as a back up!!

***** stars from me!

FYI I found out later that www.itouchless.com sells the replacement lids for $39.99.

But out of 51 reviews with a 3 Star or lower rating, there were at least 20+ which didn't have anything to do with it malfunctioning, but rather complained because it came dented, didn't like the battery placement, thought it closed or opened too slowly, etc.! But there are also quite a few of the 262 customers who gave it great ratings who have also said it was going perfectly fine for 1 year and more!

I am sure there are legitimate complaints there where the trash can was obviously defective, but I also believe that some of those people who experience problems after several months have probably done things they weren't supposed to that help cause the problems they encountered, especially with young kids around ... like pushing/pulling down/up on the lid while it was slowly closing/opening to "help" it along, or may have set something on the lid (like a grocery package, kids toy, etc.) for even a short period of time and the lid strained to open but couldn't, etc.

Still, it's almost half price or less than it was originally and there are many positive reviews around that seem to also suggest you could purchase one and be very happy with it ... so YMMV!

Our lid broke on ours 2 weeks out of warranty. iTouchless told us to buy another lid. These things are not designed well enough to last more than a year or two.

We've had one for over two years and just recently the battery died. We love it!

There's a touchless 13 gallon can at Sam's Club for $40 regular. Not sure what brand, but fyi for those with a membership.

Got one of these for over a year now, only changed the D-batteries recently. Open/close cycles maybe 20 times per day. Can't imagine using anything else and I went through many different trash can designs.

We have 2 and my sister has 2 we love them also. Though the foot pedal ones may be just as effective.

So, you have two and love them ... is this a good deal then?

I bought one of these at Sam's Club a couple of years ago, and still on the original batteries. I love it, though only complaint is positioning so it doesn't open all the time when someone walks by, rather than waving a hand over the top.

FYI - We picked up similar item at Costco over a year ago, was $39.99 in store - we really like the convenience. Not sure if still offered in store, but they do offer online: Costco Version $59.99 shipped - Note: Now on sale for $49.99

My sister, mom and friend all have same item, all of us very pleased with it. Same price as Amazon before the subscription refund, plus you get Costco's excellent warranty, if it should break simply return it to Costco under their return policy of guaranteed satisfaction. Some may also prefer Costco's style (all brushed chrome look) compared to the black plastic top on Amazon.

Unit works great except for the Battery power.

I think I will switch to rechargables.

Requires 2 D size, I am going to try the Eneloops with the D adapter.
