This is the full version of LightRoom 2, not the upgrade. It says 1-2 months shipping, but I find that can change to shipping now status in as little as a day or two. Either way, it's considerably cheaper than anywhere else! Free shipping, of course. I use this application every day. Photography wouldn't be the same without it, as far as I'm concerned.

I've got LR 1.4 or whatever it is. Anyone think upgrading to 2 from 1.4 is worth it?

Yes, definitely. The new brush tools are so, so useful. So now you can selectively increase exposure/saturation/contrast etc etc on specific parts of the image without having to use Photoshop.

Don't know if it's worth it, but make sure you get the cheaper upgrade if you do... here

Educators, students (Kindergarten on up - aka mom & dad!), and educational institutions can purchase Adobe products at discounted prices by ordering through the Adobe Education Storeor an Adobe Authorized Education Reseller.

These are full retail versions and licenses.

I purchased my copy of Photoshop Lightroom2 directly from the Adobe Education Store (when I was purchasing CS3 Mastersuite), but I only see version 1 there now. Academic Superstore(an authorized reseller) has Lightroom2 for $95.95 + $1.99 shipping.

How carefully does Adobe check your credentials for these products? Doesn't Adobe use a strict authentication process for its software?

If you qualify for academic licensing then you will have no problems. However, if you don’t plan on adhering to the Adobe Academic licensing agreement which prohibits use by anyone who is not an active student or facility (BTW academic licensing rights do NOT extend to family member(s) of qualified students or facility members) from a qualifying education institution then you are still using the software illegally. You might as well get it for free from a Warez site if that is your intent since one is just as illegal as the other.

In addition, if you buy software while you are a student and then graduate or drop out the academic license reverts to a perpetual license just as if you bought it at a regular street price. That means the license doesn't expire once you are no longer an active student.

I just wanted to clear that up because I am able to buy software from my college (ie Office 2007 for $15 or free if I download it from the Blackboard and Adobe CS3 for $299.)

Yes...that's why I said "purchase" and not "use", cnIsfg. I don't even know what Warez is and I don't appreciate you implying as to my "intent". And, yes, I know you said "if".

A parent of a qualifying student can purchase the product on their behalf and install it on one desktop. It is, indeed, a EULA (end user license) for the software.

You are required to provide documented proof of qualification -- in my case, I have a K-12 student and provided Adobe with a copy of my son's report card and my driver's license. Here's their FAQ

Any reference to that fact?

Okay, here's where it gets sticky. If a student purchases their software from their school, that school might be distributing the software through the Adobe "Open Options" Student Licensing Option. That agreement is silent on continued use of the original product. But remember, the license does say you must qualify as an educational end-user "to use the software". No where do I see anything about a license in perpetuity. If you have that in writing, Pebbler, I'd really like to know where I can find a copy for my records.

If the student purchases their software from a school participating in the Adobe "Open Options" Student Licensing Option, there are stipulations on upgrades:
Q: Can software purchased through the Adobe Student Licensing Option be upgraded?
A: Yes. Students are eligible to purchase the commercial upgrade for the product upon graduation.
If they are still students, they must also purchase a separate copy of the new product through
the Adobe Student Licensing Option.
FAQ

These excerpts are specific to the Open Options Student Licensing Program and do not apply to qualified individual purchases directly from the Adobe Education Store.

Hope that helps.

Office 2007 Authorization

Student Users Acceptance Form
This acceptance form is valid for the Microsoft products listed below, which shall be referred to collectively herein as the “Software”. Software is made available to you because XXXXX Community College has purchased temporary licenses for the Software through Microsoft Campus Subscription Enrollment. XXXXX Community College is extending to you the right to use the Software on a personally-owned computer. You do not own the license or the CDs, rather you are authorized to use the Software and associated media pursuant to the terms and conditions of the license(s) granted to XXXXX Community College for the term of the Campus Subscription Enrollment period. You will be notified in advance should XXXXX Community College decide not to renew the Campus Subscription agreement. You will be required to remove the Software from your personal machine immediately upon the earlier of (a) any event, with the exception of graduation, which causes you no longer to be a credit seeking student of the institution or (b) the Campus Subscription Enrollment program is not renewed by XXXXX Community College.

If you graduate during the Campus Agreement Subscription term, the Software license will convert to a perpetual license (meaning you own the Software) as verified in your Student License Confirmation, which may be obtained from XXXXX Community College at that time. The Student License Confirmation is proof of Software ownership.

You are granted the right to use the following Software per the terms of the Campus Agreement Student Option:

In order to download Office 2007, you must agree to the following conditions:I will read and abide by the license(s) associated with this Software.

By clicking the button "Mark Reviewed" you agree to the following statements:

I understand that no technical support is provided by XXXXX Community College.
I understand the minimum specifications to run the Software as listed.
I understand that I will be required to remove the Software from my personal machine immediately upon the earlier of (a) any event, with the exception of graduation, which causes me to no longer to be a student of the institution or (b) expiration of the Campus Subscription Enrollment licensed period.
I understand that if XXXXX Community College does not renew the Student Option under the Campus Subscription Enrollment, then I must delete or remove the Software licensed to XXXXX Community College under the Campus Agreement from my computer at the time the enrollment expires or is terminated.
I understand that if I graduate from XXXXX Community College during the Campus Subscription Enrollment licensed period, the Software license will convert to a perpetual license (meaning I have full ownership of the Software).
I understand that it is my responsibility to contact the institution to obtain the Student License Confirmation, which is proof of Software ownership, prior to graduation from the institution.

This is for Office 2007. I should note that I was wrong about a pre condition of Office 2007 reverting to a perpetual license in the event of dropping out. Apparently a student at my community college MUST graduate or be in good academic standing in order for that to happen.

I have not bought the academic version of Adobe CS3 from my bookstore so I cannot find the EULA for the Adobe as it is not available for download through my community college website. I would assume it is the same for Adobe unless otherwise refuted. This is my personal interpretation. It should not be used as legal fact unless otherwise refuted. Any copies of Adobe purchased through the community college bookstore are most likely retail versions offered with an educational discount. I would see no way that Adobe can ascertain the difference, and as such be able to revoke any licenses granted under academic auspices. Again, this is my personal interpretation and should not be taken as legal fact.
