Price for these are always $299 (8GB), $249 (4GB), AND $199 (2GB). Buy.com is selling them for $199, $149, and $99 respectively. I love slacker radio. You can make your own stations with only the artists you want to listen to. |

Hmmm. Sounds like pandora.com. Pandora let's you create your own genre stations as well. Except that pandora.com is free. Oh, and padora works on the iPhone among others. When I first saw slacker I thought it was somewhat interesting but I couldn't see why someone would want to pay so much for another device they would have to carry around when the functionality was available on their existing devices. The prices should be about $29 for 8gb, $15 for 4gb, and $8 for 2gb. :-P |
8GB Slacker is $115 with free shipping. Instant $15 rebate if you pay with PayPal for $100 net price. http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=206165763 These are the version 1 Slacker players. The new G2 models are somewhat smaller and sleeker, but cost 3 times as much. |
Reviews say that this slacker version sucks. I'm waiting for the Blackberry software to be released so I can just use my Blackberry. Slacker.com rocks. |
G4 had a good review of the G1 slacker player. The G2 players are nicer, which is why the G1 is being closed out for such cheap prices. Yes, Slacker is very similar to Pandora. If you can get Pandora for free on your iPhone (and it doesn't kill your iPhone battery and the phone audio streaming is good quality), then you don't need a Slacker player, except to plug it in to your home stereo or your car or something. |
slacker can be compared to Pandora, but it's a lot better. Slacker is about control: Pandora - You can give it 1 or several bands and using the music genome project it will select songs it thinks you like. It does a very good job. Slacker - You go to slacker.com and create a station. You give it at least 15 artists and it will play music only from the artists you select. Or you can tell it to autodiscover much like Pandora in addition to those 15 bands. You can have it auto discover a lot, or only once in a while. In addition, you can choose to play only new songs, slightly old songs, or just old songs. Or you can tell it to play hits, fringe, or lesser heard tracks. Or, any combination of those above. They also have over 100 professionally programmed stations to choose from. You do have to put up with approximately 3 15 second commercials per hour kinda sucks, but 6 skips per hour doesn't. Since you have more control, you skip less. There is the premium service for those interested, but you get a LOT for free IMO. I don't work for them, just a fan |
