I have been paying $25/mo for AT&T DSL Express (1.5mbps). Comcast is offering 6mbps cable Internet service for $20/mo for the first 6 months only from its retailers, expiring end of September. Being an existing AT&T DSL customer, I tried to price match.

Today I called AT&T at 1-800-288-2020 (national Internet support #) and told them that Comcast is offering 6mbps cable Internet service for $20/mo but did not mention it's only good for 6 months; the first CSR offered a $50 visa card if I upgrade to the Elite service (6 mbps) for $35/mo regular price, but I declined.

Then they connected me to the second CSR who offered the Elite service for $17.5/mo for 6 months which beats the Comcast 6-month promotion offer. I took this offer for now.

It appears that the second CSR is well aware of my local Internet service competitor's promotion offer even though Comcast does not offer the $20/mo deal directly on their website any more.

Comcast also offers FAR cable modem, and depending on when you sign up, a $100 or $150 cash rebate incentive. Although there are mixed reviews on whether the $100 rebate will actually arrive. I signed up a few weeks ago, and will need to wait several months to see if it does.

She offered me it for 17.95 month for a year, also lowered my phone bill $5 a month.
So for us it was a savings of almost $18 per month

EDIT to add. All you have to do is make it sound like you are going to cancel...they want you as a customer and will try to keep you. IF you have no success with the first person you talk to, then ask to talk to someone in retention

In my three plus years of Comcast, the cable modem (furnished by Comcast) required a REBOOT AT LEAST ONCE A MONTH, service by a technical support specialist (and me waiting on a phone line for an hour or more) every three months on average; outages of 1 day or more on average about every 6 months and an on-site visit by a technician about every 6 months. Finally, I had enough. I moved to AT&T U-Verse about 3 months ago, so far no interruptions no support required, no on hold for an hour or more and service that is on the order of several times faster than Comcast ever was. And yes they are both "rated" at 6 Mbps, but the Comcast line is shared by everyone on a switch and so your speed gets slower during busy times. AT&T is dedicated and the 6 Mbps is all mine, not shared, no slowdowns, MUCH FASTER!

Just my experience, yours could vary but I would not go back to Comcast unless it was one heck of a deal on both TV and Internet and then they would have to pay me!

i am currently on ATT's pro service until sometimes in March 09 I think. I wonder if I can get in the elite for 20. I am paying like 25 for month when I sign up for 1 year. how can I get 20 for the elite.

I pay 29.99 for RoadRunner Turbo 20mbs down when I threatened to cancel for Fios in Manhattan....

I guess att might have some type of rating system. I have contacted them several time over last several months to ask for upgrade my basic dsl, they said the basic is only thing I can heave. I know my neighbors are using faster speed from att. And they argue the number of slot for faster speed is limited and they can't provide it to me. I tried several times threatening to cancel, it seemed every time they were happy to do that for me! I only do web surfing, so I am not heavy user.

got PRO for 50% off for 6mo and measured local at $5.83/mo. going to have T-Mobile at home and a landline for a total of $16 which is cheaper than what i was paying before. had express for $20 before. 2 lines worked out better for me as i have such needs.

timewarner sales guy lied and said he could match and waited a week to say he couldn't while my move planning is underway. so suck this roadrunner! i'm going to ignore you for another 6 months.
