THE DEAL IS DEAD!

The price is now $65 & the rebate expired at the end of SepT.

Sure why not. Not like it's possible to just reply or bump and mention in quick summary a whole $5 price drop.
These deal copiers are just getting a little ridiculous. Posting everything and anything just for a little more credit just ends up diluting the rest of the Hot Deals.

EDIT: Different rebate? Well okay then, should have led with that.

Thanks OP. Seems worthy of a post since it's cheaper with a fresh rebate. Appreciate the links and drive specs you provided as well.

I understand what you mean and where you are coming from, and I think what you posted makes sense. However, seeing as the OP of the other thread just put a link and nothing else in his or her post, and how the post is nearly a month old, I thought making a new thread would be a better idea.

Trust that I struggle when I see an item being posted before because I am not sure if I should just reply to bump the thread (sometimes I do - honestly) or create a new thread. And if you believe me, I am not posting this because I am a "deal copier" who is "posting everything and anything just for a litle more credit."

I have contacted a moderator and if he or she sees fit, he or she can simply lock this thread. Thanks for bringing up your opinions.

Edit: Just in case you were interested in what I wrote to the moderator, I decided to share it here:
Hello, Moderator, I hope all is well. A FatWallet member stated that this thread is a repost, but I am not fully sure that it is. I stated my reasons for why this thread may not be considered a repost in the thread. In any case, can you use your discretion and take the appropriate actions (or inactions)? Thank you. Have a good day, Victor Ly

Moderator's Response: I see in the thread they have mentioned it's a new rebate. It sounds like a new deal to me, thanks for letting us know! Thanks for posting!

Deskstars used to be known as Deathstars. Has the reliability improved? I need to replace my main drive.

A looooooooooooooooong time ago. They're fine nowadays.

I got in on this deal when it was $55 AR 2 weeks ago. The drives I got were just fine. VERY quiet and cool to the touch in my Antec enclosures (from Fry's $12.99). The reviews said the drives were quiet and relatively cold and they were right. I worked them hard to get them initialized and tested and they performed greatly!

Also the rebate is through El Paso, which is my experience means it is reliable and relatively hassle-free.

Great deal in ym opinion. Too bad I hadn't waited just a little longer.

Do you know what the warranty is on this OEM model?

Not a word on this at the egg...

sorry for the stupid question. do I have to look for any specification when I buy an external enclosure to fit this drive...

Nope, it's a standard 3.5 inch drive, just make sure the chipset accept the drive capacity (500 GB in this case)

Just confirming that the quality and durability of Deskstar hard drives have improved and their reputation is not long questionable.

And make sure you're getting a SATA enclosure, not PATA (IDE).

Yep. Have 6 of the first gen 1TB drives running 24/7/365 for the last 1.5 years - not a spot of trouble.
