Why did this have to get posted AFTER I made my trip to Microcenter today. ![]()
I refuse to do any more City of Industry rebates. Things may have changed now but just sharing my past experience.

Me too! It's a good deal (green for OP) but City of Industry

This rebate goes straight the Xigmatec doesn't it? Did you have a problem with Xigmatec rebate?
Edit: Same address as rebate.

Was just about to point out the same thing. This rebate goes straight to Xigmatec, the manufacturer.

Yeah, must be the same reason why you went to Microcenter BEFORE this post was made?
Thx op in for 1. Btw, does this thing fit a radeon 4850? If not, it will hopefully fit one of my Nvidia cards.

According to Xigmatek's official page for this product, it will fit the 4850 (link here). Some of the reviews on Newegg also state that it'll fit the 4850.
Hope that helps,

Quote from DCsRealDeal :
BEWARE all CITY OF INDUSTRY & MICROCENTER REBATES. Our small DC area user group has experienced a 0% payout from 14 rebate submissions to the City of Industry.
Only after a BBB complaint with no response and pressure on 3 guys at Microcenter corporate (store managers in Houston and Fairfax would not do anything for us), did the fulfilment center respond...and three of us had to wait an additional 8 weeks on top of a 6 month wait.
There is a reason Microcenter is able to run these spectacular loss leader promos...they burn a huge class of consumers and these forums just don't deter enough lemmings..
Thanks for the heads up, I've been leery of MC rebates just because there's been SO MANY of them. I have a B&M location nearby and I'm there frequently for small stuff, and it's amazing how many items in their paper circular (monthly, 30+ PAGES) have substantial rebates.
I got my cooler yesterday, 10/3 and for the past few hours I've been trying to install this and get it to work.
Like many of the Newegg reviewers mentioned, the memory heatsinks don't stick (mainly the long ones). Also, the heatpipes don't clear the top row of memory heatsinks if you have that installed. If your video card has a long, metal bracket that runs along the top of your card, that will also have to be removed as the heat pipes get in the way.
The installation instructions are very poor. According to the manual, I'm only supposed to have 4 hex screws yet in my box I received 2 sets of different hex screws, one having a taller "base" than the other. How am I supposed to know which one to use if it's not stated in the manual?
The hardware included (screws, adapter plates, etc.) seem very weak and fragile and I can see how some reviewers were able to mess up one of their spring loaded screw.
After a longer time than necessary to install it, I'm now running into my biggest headache and I'm hoping someone here can help me out. Vista is reporting that it stopped the device because the device is reporting problems (error code 43). I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers and that doesn't work.
I'm installing this on a 9800 GT and assumed that everything would work since it's pretty much a rebadged 8800 GT. But according to Xigmatek's website, I see no mention of the 9800 GT being on that list. My card originally had a 4 pin/prong fan connected to the video card itself. Since the VD964 has 3 pin prong fans, I had to connect it to the motherboard.
I'm tired and gonna get some sleep so I will try to troubleshoot some more later, but do you guys think the fact that by having no fan connected to the video card is causing this problem? For those of you that have the 8800 GT or even the 9800 GT, does your original heatsink/fan have a 3 pin or 4 pin plug?

Incidentally, if your concern is the high tempertures running your Radeon HD 48x0 card with the fan at stock speeds, check out this video on youtube.com that explains how to do a manual fan speed change:
I did this mod to change my fan speed from 20% to 58% and my temperatures at idle dropped from 76C to 44C with only slightly more fan noise, not really noticeable sitting in my home theater 12' away from my HTPC and definitely not noticeable when my HVAC system is running.
