this is probably right...they typically always have a fall rebate special...especially now that the 50d is out...look for rebates on the 40D

Thanks for the heads up on the potential for rebates. This is a great thread for the deals discussion forum!

.

so how is something that was bought on eBay qualify? some rebates, like the sennheiser, forbid merchants on eBay, even if they are authorized dealers.

why would canon give a rebate on something the was purchased prior to their promotion starting?

Don't want to threadcrap, but from my (and many other's) experience with Canon rebates, the word "coming" may be a bit of a misnomer.

I also got my EF 70-200 2.8 L IS for $1500 (i.e. same price, but without the rebate drama) from Amazon (BH, etc, had the same price, Amazon had free shipping and I had a gift card) a few months ago during their "no rebate sale". Yeah, yeah, I know no time machines, but if you're planning on buying a lens that costs more than your first car did, you might want the info

I'll probably still end up buying the 100mm f/2.8 Macro at $469-50. I'm almost certain the price on that lens may of have dropped in the past few months.

These look like the same amounts in rebates as offered earlier this year, no?

IIRC, they just want a serial number of a camera, don't need a barcode or anything. Suspect it's to prevent companies from filing for mad numbers of rebates and selling the lens as "used". Some of these lenses don't depreciate / depreciate very little if "used", so the temptation is there.

On a side note, when I bought my the 70-200, eBay prices were about $1700 for used / good condition, even though virtually all places had it on sale for $1525. If you want to dick around with the tards on eBay, there is potential to to make a few bucks.

WTF are you talking about? you think if you give them the serial number of a camera they are going to give you a rebate for a lens? you don't think they're going to want to see a receipt? you don't think they know that you can buy something and return it? this whole thread is stupid. why is this balderdash in HOT DEALS to begin with? is it so the OP can claim it was his deal for the next year, and the mods will lock everyone who mentions it?

My research indicates these are Canada rebates.

Chances are the retailers will jack up the price right before the rebates come out.

In this economy? Yeah, sure... They will welcome the help from Canon to lift up their miserable sales a bit and will leave the prices untouched.

I recommend Nikon

Anyway...OP's post is simply a cut and paste from canonrumors.com. And is for Canada. USA is still to be decided.
