Previous thread for Buy.com deal: http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/hot-deals/860395

Few dollars less than previous deal, not bad.

EDIT: I did search and didn't see it posted. If it's a repost let me know.

If I read this right from the specs, this doesn't have a tuner, correct?

Whoops, you're right. I didn't even read it carefully. Thanks for pointing that out.

I saw that also. Seems a little silly to only save $20 on a refurb. Seems to be a good monitor either way.

Could this be used as a TV?
If I'm just going to have a cable box and DVD player hooked up?

yea - through HDMI or component to your cable box.

I have the 47" version of this monitor, I use it with my PC and with a cable box. If you have a cable box or MCE Win box those are the tuners that you would use.

I also have the 42" Westy that I picked up at Costco for $699, it is 1080p and does have tuners. I use that as a television only with no boxes attached, it works great with my cable plugged in to it.

This + tuner = LCD TV.

Do you need a tuner? Of course not, Over the air tuners are for the poor who cant afford cable/sat. In reality 99.9% of LCD TVs in use can be called monitors as nobody uses the useless builtin tuners.

Second, over the air signals will give you better picture quality than cable/satellite. Providers have to compress their signals to be able to offer so many HD channels within their limited bandwidth while OTA networks broadcast without compression.

I receive my TV via OTA. While I am not rich, I am certainly not poor (74k combined income for 2007). From what I read, cable and satellite TV penetration is about 88-89%. There is quite a bit of renewed interest in OTA transmissions due to those being true HDTV and not compressed, just like calvinandhobbes mentioned. Everyone I know that gets HDTV through cable also has to pay extra for their HDTV package.

I find this "TV" interesting as I thougt the FCC mandated that all TV's, larger than 26"?, manufactured after March 1, 2007 had to include a digital tuner. How old is this TV?
