If your UPC is dead, or close to it, you probably need to replace those lead acid batteries inside of it. Overstock has the APC Replacement Cartridge #25 (which is just four 12V 7.5Ah batteries connected together) for only $69 + $2.95 s/h. Add the 10% coupon code to that (a simple search will get you the code) and you can have them shipped for $65.05! And you can even try combining it with Live Search CashBack as well for an additional 2% to 7% off.

This is super cheap considering that other places charge you $30+ just to ship these bad boys since each 4-pack weighs in at 26lbs. And it's cheaper than buying 4 separate generic brand batteries off eBay. I got two replacement cartridges for my UPS and was even considering getting a 3rd as a spare.

Before you buy, check to see if these will fit in your UPS (especially if you have one of the smaller ones). You can remove the attached cables and use the batteries individually.

Green for the somewhat crafty angle of this deal.

7.5Ah - which APC UPS model would use that size battery - 350, 450, 550, etc?

Yeah, I hate when my UPC dies. It makes getting the rebates nearly impossible.

There are many UPSs (and other electronics) out there that'll fit these 12V batteries. I have a Belkin UPS for my personal computer that takes 2 of these 12V batteries. The batteries that came with it were something like 12V 1.2Ah, so the upgrade to 7.5Ah definitely helped increase the uptime.

Probably the best way to tell if these will fit is to take a look inside of your UPS (or maybe the manuf. website will tell you). Of course, don't open your UPS if you aren't comfortable messing with it since it can be dangerous.

I know it will work. I was just curious about what kind of upgrade it would be. I have a variety from 350 to 1150.

This appears to be the same product at Overstock for $372.99???

Same product at Newegg for $369.99, but they are all overpriced in that range. This is just 4 standard batteries with an APC plug attached. Looks very much like the set I had to get to replace my Powerware unit's batteries last year and they were in the ballpark of this OS deal, but this deal is probably a little better.

Red for putting $399.99 in the title to try to mislead people.

I pulled the trigger. These batteries cost ~33$ a piece bought separately at a place like batteries plus.

$399's the retail price, as quoted on that very page.
I don't think it's misleading at all.

That said, the price is about the same as generic 12v 7.5Ah SLA batteries on froogle, as seen here.
Still they're genuine APC with the connectors, so if you need 'em it's about the best price on quality batteries you're going to find.

Hard to believe a 7.5Ah battery would replace a 1.5Ah in the same form factor.

You had me up until Overstock.com... It seems everything I order the box comes pre-open (bad packing)... And I would be worried how old the stock is... Lead acid batteries suffer from a limited useful life due primarily to two factors: Corrosion of the positive grid and sulfation on the negative grid...

Just a thought....

With some duct tape and a long enough wire... Anything is possible....

APC does indeed charge $399 for this battery pack. It is for their Smart UPS units, the model APC Smart-UPS XL 1400VA RM 3U 120V . If bought from APC it has a 1 year replacement warranty.

APC Link

Note per APC:
Post-Installation
Once installed, allow the unit to charge for five hours. If the unit is an XL model, allow it to charge for 24 hours.

Note: The Smart-UPS will charge whether it is on or off, and will charge whether there is a load present or not. In situations where the power quality is poor, it is recommended that the unit be shutdown during this charging period. A Smart-UPS that is powered on may switch to battery operation which would prolong the time needed to fully recharge the battery.

When I get the batteries, I can try running some tests to see what condition they're in, but it's difficult to figure out the age of lead acid batteries. If anyone knows of a test that can be run (other than charging the batteries and then timing how long it takes before the UPS shuts off), I'll give it a shot. If they are bad, I can always try contacting APC and maybe they'll send replacements. For this price, it was hard to pass up.

I also noticed that Overstock removed the $399 retail price from the page.

You can look at voltage of peak charge to get them into cutoff, but that sually is misleading too. It's all time.

I take a 500 watt torch (halogen lamp), crank it to about 20% of the brightness and slap a meter on it. I know it's not an exact load but the bulb can handle the chopped current and I get a steady drain out of the UPS. Oh- and I don't discharge it below 40%.

Good luck.
