Price Mistake? Got this deal in an email with a weird header and I almost didn't even look at the deal. Seriously thinking about buying a couple of these and making a SSD RAID array.

Math works out like this:
$189.99 Cart Price
-$20.00 MIR
$169.99 AR

Is this one a POS like the OCZ Core?

Yes, it is jmicron based and has the write stutter problem. Olny SLC and the Intel MLC SSDs are worth using at this point IMHO.

There is a right price for everything and this is getting damn close.

I bought a 32GB Patriot SSD a week ago. I did all the research on the Jmicron stutter issues, so I went in with my eyes open.

With XP set up correctly, I experience a hesitation (1-2 seconds) only about one to three times a day (NOTE: I am on my PC for at least 10-12 hours each day). The rest of the time, the drive performs very well even though I am running at the same time: eMule, Azureus, PeerGuardian 2, multiple IE windows, multiple Explorer windows, Photoshop, Excel or Word, and an image viewer. Every once in a while with all of this going on, I fire up a game (nothing intensive). Most of my apps load pretty close to instantaneously.

If you're not willing or able to do research on the workarounds, then this is not the product for you.

If you're technically capable, and are willing to understand how to work around the deficiencies, I say, take advantage of the fire sale prices.

Fire sale = get rid of them while they still can until everyone find out about the problem?

This has been the going price recently.

tcyiu - do you have links for the workarounds?

I bought one of the 64gb OCZ drives a few weeks ago when they were $106 AR even after reading all the horrible reviews on them. I put it in my Asus EeePC 1000H. It's amazing how much faster windows loads now. I was in such a hurry to replace the drive I forgot to compare the startup times but I think it takes about 1/3 the time it used to take. I've been using it for about a week now and haven't seen a pause or stutter yet. Granted I've only used my Eee for internet/music/movies but that's the only thing I'll ever use it for so I couldn't be happier with the drive.

It seems to me that if these drives performed like they were supposed to in all situations they would be selling for over $400 like they were 6 weeks ago. If you are aware of the limitations and possible problems with this drives then it's a heck of a deal. Do your research. There's plenty of information out there about which hardware/chipsets have a real problem with these drives and possible workarounds.

If anyone plans on putting this in your 1000H, make sure you Restore BIOS Defaults after installing this drive.

The closest to a single resource (there are many) would be the OCZ forum Click here

[NOTE: Even though I bought a Patriot, the workarounds for Windows work regardless of whose Jmicron based SSD you own. i.e. don't be put off that the link is to an OCZ forum]

See the threads that relate to Vista or XP depending on your poison of choice.
