We are committed to improving FatWallet Search.

PLEASE...
1. Tell us which search you're referring to: upper right/forums, upper right/site, forums subnav forum search, title search, topic search...
2. List specific examples of our search not working: what you expected to happen and what happened instead.
3. Comment on search options, tips, results, weighting, flexibility... what ever's on your mind!
4. Tell us what would make our search really work for you. What is your dream solution?

I know we've asked before and not followed through. I apologize for that. This time around our entire leadership team has agreed to make search improvement a top priority. Our development team leader will review feedback received by Friday, October 17, 2008 and mobilize his team accordingly.

Thanks!

I'd love it if the Hot Deals "search titles" box actually searched only the titles of posts (not titles and body) and would by default arrange results by most recent post.

Google custom search built in forum/site search
more user friendly search operators. like search all .pdfs, or all .jpegs, etc...
or perhaps search for list of all linked http links.
like with Google, I can search site:www.fatwallet.com filetype: pdf
fw doesn't tell me which links are http, pdf, jpg links.

USAGE:: If you posted or are looking for a coupon and you KNOW it is on fatwallet somewhere, currently you have to dredge through many, many, many posts and threads manually searching for it. If you could search pdf, jpg's it would narrow it down.

Regarding the forum search for archived threads, I'd like to be able to retrieve more than 200 or so results. For example, I just did a search for my archived posts (as opposed to threads) in Online Actions, knowing full well i have posted in more than 200 archived threads, but the results do not reflect that.

Oh, and on the forum search page, can you guys make select all/clear all a checkbox like the rest of the forums, and move it directly under the second column? i keep hitting that by accident instead of the search button.

1) Clicking on a user's avatar = allow for STFF of his posts.
2) STFF for words in posts and/or titles with a selection of forums to be clicked as a one step stand alone clickable button: advanced or normal.
3) Sort by relevance and/or date as a selection.

No rebates.
No YMMV.
No week old (or greater) posts.

This is only a suggestion...Visit Easynews.com and view their web based "global search" page. It's all there, simple, and filters galore for a user to apply to their search criteria...It took them a while, with a lot of effort and works very well. You most likely can benefit by using EN global search as a benchmark. Good Luck! This is a long term commitment and, we are all pulling for you.

Easy ... Google

Very simple - allow us to access the advanced search page (http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/search/index.php).

As it is now, i have to do a failed search from the title bar of a forum (NOT A TOPIC) and then I can access the search page.

Glad you are working on it, amazing that it has been this low of a priority.

Hire some web developers. That should help!

Natural language search. i.e. it looks for synonyms or related words. For example. You type in "I want to eat lunch", and it brings up things referring to food like pizza, burgers, salads, etc. It would be nice to also have it search by location too of the submitter (if they shared that info).

search for words that include space .. say for instance .. "office max"/"officemax", "best buy"/"bestbuy" ..

Please o please let me sort my search results by Date Posted...

Also, can I sort my search results by Ratings?? (Who really cares about sorting by Originator or Last Post?)

By the way, thanks for asking.. and listening!

The search result should go to the page that has the match rather than the top of the topic as it does now.

I would like to see post ratings in the search results.
As many already have said sorting results by different criteria: date posted, relevance, maybe rating, maybe date of the last post or number of views.
Make it easier to modify search
I think more filters would be great: date (posted in the last 1, 2, 3, 7, 30, 365 days), rating (only positive etc).
For instance, I would like to be able to find all the hot deals that are: no more then 1 weak old rated +5 or more.

I would like it if I could type in a zip code in the search box and find the potential deals that are in the area. I think it would be neat to type in my locale and find both deals and members/postings that are/may be around me. For example, if I type in zip code 20007 (Washington, DC), I would find deals (including YMMVs and online-only) within the DC metro area, posts (or something like member pages) from the same area, but I would not find brick and mortar deals for say Fry's.

30% CashBack for Fatwallet searches with Buy it Now j/k

If there was someway of screening results by most recent or date that would be cool. I hate getting topics from months ago. I also like being able to see all the NEW current topics or offers out there.

Would also be kinda cool if you could get Fatwallet coupons in related threads. I know you guys are always updating and changing those that unless I look everyday they will be missed.

Actually looking again it does look you have a method to screen new coupons in that section

the search at the top where it says 'search' 'go' and has 2 tabs, entire site and forums.

I am not sure what algorithm you guys use but it never finds anything relevant.
