Pretty standard Sunday ad fare.

Nothing that sticks out. Something like this will probably be $299 on BF.

Might have been hotter if it had C2D instead of Athlon X2.

I love my emachine (5 yrs. old and never had a problem). Great service dept (Gateway folks). I didn't care for the way the mouse was working, they overnighted me a new one.

I didn't know they made laptops. I bought the Acer laptop that fatwallet had as a hot deal last week. ($449) I wanted one with a web cam.

I believe the emachine laptops are fairly new. And this is a fair deal. Thanks OP

I'm no expert, but this has 2GB memory, whereas the emachine has only 1GB installed.
Most everything I've read says you really need 2GB for running vista.

I rarely see them in the stores, but my first laptop was an emachine. I want to think it was between $400-$600 and this was like 5-7 years ago.

1. It's NOT an emachine

2. 2GB DDR2 memory; DL DVD±RW/CD-RW drive; 15.4" widescreen; 160GB hard drive

If you're looking for something inexpensive with half decent specs for student it's perfect.

Has no one mentioned the NVIDIA GeForce 8200M graphics? That's nice for a $400 laptop.

Good point. Nothing to write home about, but it will do DX10. Go ahead and add the third GB of RAM and enjoy.

These graphics are on par with Intels x3100. It is absolutely nothing special. AMD/ATIs new Puma platform with HD3200 integrated graphics is THREE times as fast as the nvidia 8200m IGP.

Live and learn....

Should I go for it or wait a week or two and see what else is available. I'm trying to decide between this one and the Office Depot Acer AS4730-4857 14.1" Laptop $389.99 after $160 INSTANT rebate.

Did HP fix the problem with integrated 8200M?

I can't seem to find the integrated 8200M problem that you are referencing. Got a link?

I got a similar laptop like this at BB using the Comcast 100 off and received a $50 gift card after calling CS about a lack of webcam and media card reader mentioned in the Sunday ad that week. Total out of pocket for me was $275.00. Not sure if it's worth $399 though. I would wait till after the holidays for better prices on laptops.

Doesn't look like this laptop is available for shipping or in any store nationwide.
