Here

Not a bad entry-level monitor in the 24" space, obviously a TN panel but it's got decent reviews. 16:9 might be worse than 16:10 for some folks. One really stupid thing about this model is that there are no VESA holes, just a crappy stand with no height adjustment that you can't replace. Then again, who is going to buy a $100 stand for a sub $300 monitor?

Would be hot if any FWers could find a coupon that works.

you're confused by 16:9 ? as in the ratio that every HDTV is supposed to be ?

With that discount, the price actually beats my Dell Premier pricing through Large Business.

BTW, I bought this because this matches the res with my tv so that I can use a powered dvi split to split my signal between this monitor and my lcd tv.

well, most computer screens are not 16:9, even the wide screen monitors. the ones that are most common are 1920x1200 ~ 1.6:1

when it's set up like this it just seems like the monitor is squished a little. it might be just me, idk.

Then, again, you apparently must hate high def TV's. cause LCD ones generally are 16:9. It's nothing special really. Just means companiesa re starting to use the same panels for both.

a tv is a tv, a monitor should look like a monitor, not a tv. using a wide monitor for CAD isn't very useful if you have to scroll up and down in zoom in and out just to see the top and bottom. that's why i prefer something that is 16:10, and really like the old style but you don't find a 24" like that.

16:9 and 16:10 aren't that different though. Nowhere near the difference between 4:3 and 16:10.

I agree. A 20" 4:3 LCD is 1600x1200. A 24" 16:10 wide-screen is 1920x1200 and gives you the same height. It would be an adjustment switching to 16:9, but I could get use to it, or I would just get a bigger size with more pixels. I'm more disgusted with the switch to TN panels than I am about the ratio.

Killme, there are plenty of PVA and IPS panels still for sale -- Dell 2709W, for instance. The buying public has wholeheartedly endorsed TN panels at half the cost as providing more value. You might not share that judgment (and are free not to purchase as you will), but it seems odd to be disgusted with a preference.

As a factual matter, I'd also add that TN technology has improved dramatically over the past years, greatly shrinking the gap. Especially for computer uses where you can guarantee dead-on viewing angle, there's much to be said for the value proposition of TN.

Disgusted is a little strong. I'll rephrase since it's not TN panels I have a problem with (they are good for gaming), but that I feel they are pushed onto me. Dell use to offer the 2407WFP with their cheaper desktops and laptops and that's how I bought mine. This past year I expected to see the 2408WFP as an option with some of the deals they have had on desktops and laptops, but it's always been the E248WFP. I'll get over it, eventually.

personal preference, but I'd rather deal with the black borders and get 16:10 for that extra bit of screen real estate vertically

When you're working from 16:10 from day to day, then move to 16:9 and you notice it's feels way shorter.
