Pretty nice with the shipping included. Bout as good as you can expect for $100 total unless you're willing to deal with used.

I am looking to build my Home theater. Can you suggest some front and surround speakers as well.

I am going to listen to Polk Audio RTi A5 at fry's.

How big of speakers are you willing to tolerate?

I have looked at Polk's RTi8s, floor standing speakers and that is the size I am comfortable with.

The reason I want floor-standing speakers is that I am looking for some base in my front speakers so that when I am listening to music I just use the base from the fronts instead of the subwoofer. I got to this reasoning based on few days of researching into speakers.

The price of these center and subwoofer looks good to me. I may use them in my 5.1 set up.

Well, the PSW 10 is part of Polk's Monitor series, and the RTi8 is from the RTi series. If you want a decent 5.1, you can try this:

PSW10 Subwoofer - $99.99
Monitor 50 Floorstanding Fronts - 2x $109.99 = $219.98
CS1 Center Channel - $99.99
Monitor 40 Surrounds - $179.99

All together that's $599.95 for a complete 5.1 set of entry level Polk speakers - shipped!

While the Polk Rti8 is a very nice sounding tower, it doesn't have a whole lot of bass (not base). You will need a subwoofer for optimal sound from your system, even with 2 channel stereo.

Subwoofers do not need to be matched based on series of speaker, or even speaker manufacturer.

That being said, Polk's RTi line is a pretty big improvement over the Monitor line. Its also more expensive so wehther its worth it or not to you is up to you. Other brands in that price range worth looking at would include JBL or Infinity..

As for other Subwoofers in this price range, you might want to check out the Dayton line from Parts Express, which is currently offering free shipping. The 12" Dayton is well regarded as far as cheap subs go. Link. From there, you'd have to step up to something in the $200-$250 price range, but you'd see a big improvement there with something like the Bic Acoustech H-100. But again, it all depends on how much you want to spend.

Was about to bite, but realized this sub does not have a LFE input. My surround is pre-wired into the house and the sub is a coax run that requires use of the LFE-sub out on the receiver. This PSW10 only has speaker and line in (stereo) inputs.

Line-in is the same as LFE. You can either just plug it into 1 of the 2 stereo inputs, or some people choose to get a Y-cable splitter to run it into both (but most sub manufacturers will say just run it into one of them and it'll be fine). Just turn the crossover dial as high as it will go and you'll be fine hooked up this way.

Edit: If you don't want to take my word for it, this is the language from Polk's setup guide for this sub:
PSW10—
NOTE: The PSW10 subwoofer does not have an LFE input. Instead, use either the
L or R Line input (another hookup option is to use a Y-split cable and connect both
L and R Line inputs). After you make this Sub Out connection, turn the "Low Pass"
filter fully clockwise. This will in effect create an LFE input.

Wow, thanks - i never realized thay. I had resigned myself to the fact that I would need to spend $250-300 to get the polk with that input. Think I'll give this one another look.

RTi8 on sale now here!

I guess PSW10 is a little weak with RTi8.

About the RTi8 towers, the earlier poster was correct. I have had these for about 3 years and while I love the way they sound for music and movies, they roll off pretty dramatically in the low end. Having said that, the midbass and midrange sounds great, and since they do go lower than a bookshelf speaker, it is easier to match them with a subwoofer (my mains are crossed at 60Hz, with the satellites crossed at 80Hz) But this polk sub is not very highly regarded either. I actually preferred the small Boston Acoustic Sub from the earlier Circuit City closeout deal this year. While the BA sub is not a floorshaker either, it went considerably deeper with less dramatics than this Polk unit, so it fills in nicely with the towers.

Edit: Just saw the link above, Wow!!! I highly recommend picking up a pair of those at that price. If you were going to put a decent pair of medium sized bookshelves on stands anyway, the RTi8 footprint is not much larger, so don't be afraid of the tower.

Yes, my perception would be you wouldn't get enough power out of the PSW10 sub to match it with the RTi8. I'd definitely check out the Dayton 12" that I linked to above though. I've heard it, and its pretty loud and could keep up with the RTi's.

Other options for subs to go with RTi8 are Velodyne, Klipsch KSW-10

The Dayton is better than the polk unit, and would match great with the RTi8 as the most impressive thing about the Dayton for its size is the deep low frequency extension, about the only area where the RTi8 is weak.

The RTi8 are for 149.99, they are 10times better than M50 for a $50 difference.

OK, yes, the RTi series is a lot better than the Monitor series, but for that matter, why not just buy the LSi's and a 4-ohm amp?\

Having to buy 2 RTi8's makes that an additional $100, but then the Monitor 40s won't be well matched, and you will need to step up at least to the RTi4. If you don't mind white, Newegg has those for $149.99, which would save you $30. But then you have to move to at least the CSi3 (discontinued but available from J&R for $120 + FS). As mentioned, there are lots of options for good subs. If you go with the Dayton, it will run about $40 more. Altogether, a set of RTi matched speakers with a Dayton sub would run about $130 more (~$730)
