Ya because its so hard to take out the card and put it in a card reader thats in everyones laptop or PC.

Not only that but using a card reader is many times faster transfer.

Also keep in mind no RAW format support...

unless this version is different...

Or just plug in your camera via USB and not even bother taking out the card, but that is not the point...

Wirelessly upload photos to your computer and to your favorite photo sharing, printing, blogging or social networking website. It’s never been easier to share your memories while they are still fresh.
Like the Eye-Fi Home, the Eye-Fi Share wirelessly connects to your home Wi-Fi network and uploads your pictures. It delivers photos to your computer, but also includes our unlimited, secure web sharing service to automatically upload your pictures to your favorite photo site. Choose from among more than 20 of the most popular websites and some up-and-comers too. View the complete list of Online Destinations for your Eye-Fi Card.
The Eye-Fi Share offers the added convenience of uploading your photos, even when your computer is turned off. Using it’s Smart Boost capability, the Card will determine the most efficient path to upload pictures, going quickly to your computer if it’s on and then from there to the web if you’ve elected to share online, or going straight to the web if the computer is off. The photos will be stored securely and delivered to the computer the next time it is turned on.

Yow that's an expensive SD card! Hard to justify that vs. a $13 4GB SD card that you have to do a little manual labor with...especially in this economy.

Well cheaper than the $129 retail price!
Still it doesn't have anything to do with manual labor, it is about being able to upload immediately from any WiFi hotspot without lugging around a laptop.

Don't pay $13 for 4GB, get this 8GB for $13.
The last 8GB I bought was when it was $15 free ship

Eye-Fi is for a different use than cheap storage only...

I think people are missing the point. You are out shooting a party- and as you shoot each picture, it appears on your website or blog - in real time.

If you have that big of a card you should be able to take plenty of pictures before you need to clear it off, right? Don't pay $13 for 4GB, get this 8GB for $13.

I was just thinking off the top of my head about the $13 Kodak 60x 4GB card at CC this week in their ad, but that's a better deal Eye-Fi is for a different use than cheap storage only... Sure, but is the cost justified by comparison?

people on fatwallet are generally stupid about these things, and more often than not miss the point. this is how most people think: Geez, i usually take a picture, come home, plug in the camera to the computer and transfer the picture, so anyone wanting to do things differently is a)stupid b)lazy c)too rich or d)other...

i tried to fight this mentality but have now just accepted it, and dont even bother explaining...whats the point!

Great deal. Ordered one. Thanks OP. Green for you.

OP: I feel bad for you that some pp trashing your post for expensive card. Ignore those, they won't realize how useful the wifi feature is. This card is not for everyone. For some of us, it's more than justify for the extra $$$ here.

Obviously this card is not for everyone,...

When introduced the Eye-Fi was $99 for a 2gig.
This one has twice the storage, discounted $30 everyday at Costco and the hot deal is an extra $20 off through Dec 7th.

"Like the Eye-Fi Home, the Eye-Fi Share wirelessly connects to your home Wi-Fi network and uploads your pictures."

Don't forget the keyword here - "home". Keep this in mind... If it worked from ANY hot spot then it could justify the cost (and would probably be on my Christmas wish list). However, I'm pretty sure it has to be pre-configured for a particular access point. At the very least, you would have to set a WEP or WPA password unless you can get lucky enough to find an unprotected hotspot. Even most public unprotected hotspots require free registration through a web front-end that this card could not accommodate.

In other words, I don't mean to sound contrary, but good luck getting this thing to work anywhere else besides your house... and if you're already home then what's the trouble in just popping it into your laptop or PC?

OK then. Now for technical details, if you are out shooting a party, and there is Wi-Fi, how can you connect to the Wi-Fi network?

yes you have a point.

But when you carefully examine the eye-fi website, it basically says take pictures, go home, and eye fi connects to your wireless router at home and upload to photo sharing website and/or your computer.

So without eye-fi, you take pictures, go home, pull out your card, stick it in reader, and mass upload...and this is $70 more?

oh, and why are you stupifying yourself on FW?

You have to bring your laptop to the party and ask the homeowner for his wifi ssid and password. LOL

Exactly what I was saying... Ad-hoc connections aren't really possible. Only your pre-configured home network. I'll still green the post for the good price, even though I don't agree with the product.
