I wonder how this compares to the HD100 they just put out - WalMart exclusive it seems - it is 199.99 and it claims 1080P and 720P resolution filming as well as 5MP pictures. I ask because even if this is only 100 more, when you look at the added costs for extended warranty (WalMart has dirt cheap ones) then the WalMart might end up being a better deal. Still, I am considering this cam in my HD cam purchase.

I've had the HD-700 and now the HD-1000. The HD-1000 takes somewhat better video but the HD-700 took slightly better still photos and is more portable. I'm a big fan of both these Sanyo Hybrids. I'm really curious about the HD-100 that WalMart offers since it is small and shoots at 1080P.

The HD100 has poor sensitivity indoors and no High Sensitivity (1/15 sec) mode. It also does not keep the color balance settings, etc, they are lost when the HD100 goes into standby. I returned mine to WalMart. A big disappointment after the HD700s I have owned.

Oh - the zoom lens on HD100 is its one bright point. Not a patch on my Kodak's V1073 or Z1012, or my Canon HF100s, but nevertheless better than the HF700 by quite a large factor - wider field of view and it lets more light through at the telephoto end. The HD100 image stabilization was pretty bad, too, but maybe I have been spoiled by the optical IS of the Canon and Kodaks.
