Cavalry CAXB3701T0 = $129.99

$30 MIR

Free Shipping

From reviews of a similar Cavalry HDD without eSATA I suspect this may also include the same highly rated WD10EACS SATA drive which by itself sells for $99.99. If you were planning to buy an internal then perhaps you could rip this out and save the enclosure for other use.

I wonder why the CAXB series is not listed on the Cavalry site.

I just emailed customer service at Cavalry. The guy answered me in 15 seconds!

Hello Mr. XXXX,

Currently, the drive inside is WD10EACS. Please let me know if you have other questions.

Thank you,

Yeah - I'm interested, but one disturbing thing is the line on the rebate form that says, "4 To receive your rebate money properly, you should verify the rebate information online from 02/10/2009 to 03/10/2009
Rebate is void after this time frame." What on earth is that all about?

I checked the FW thread about this unit from Buy.com in Sept. to see if anybody reported success with the rebate, but it looks like those orders were cancelled for some unknown reason. See http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/hot-deals/866126

Decisions, decisions... Do I get the bare OEM drive from Newegg for $99 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136151), or take a chance on this rebate...

Unless you *need* an external enclosure, why mess with a rebate if you're just looking for the WD10EACS?

It's my FW training - buy a WD10EACS, get an e-sata enclosure for free (to use with some other drive some day).

But I went ahead and bought the OEM WD10EACS instead of the one in the enclosure, because the rebate looks risky at best...

There you go!! You used M$/FW CashBack... right?

I understand the "value" aspect... why not get a free enclosure, but with rebate hassle I say it's not worth it...
