THanks OP...just what I was looking for. In 4 1 !

can anyone with experience compare the following:

SD770IS
SD1100IS
Sony DSW120 (SP?)

small
cheap lithium batteries on eBay
decent high lux pictures (we all know point n shoots stink at low lux; use the DSLR)
viewfinder(a must!)
video and audio (might as well not carry around a flip and a camera)
in the case of the canon: hackability.

i'm not much of a P&S person but looking at all these models in such short time seems to be quite confusing

co-asked which one OD the following is more worthwhile?

Add a 16GB Kingston card instead of the 4GB one!....will apply discount to 16GB.

Canon770IS and 1100IS are for different customers.
IMO, 770IS is a high-end product. well-design and well-made. while 1100IS must be driven by cost, kind of plastic toy, even though it's under the SDxx family.
SDxx family are all slim design, very compact, using built-in Li-on battery.

Axxx, in contrast, IMO, are low-end products. A570, A590, even A720 are exact plastic toys made by Canon. If you use them, you will experience your first pain, very-low battery life. I mean very very short. They all use two AA battery, so IMO, that's a design mistake. i.e. sacrifice battery size (from 4xAA to 2xAA) for compact size.
A6xx using 4xAA doesn't have this problem, A610, A630, A650... but they are bulky.

If size is not a concern, S5 is a good one. otherwise, SDxx is a good choice.

I have the SD770 and love it. I used to have the SD600, which I also loved. I was considering the SD1100 (which is the descendant of the SD600/SD1000 line) but when I played around with it in the store, it just felt cheap and plastic-y (like someone else mentioned). Size/feature wise they're very similar.

That said, the SD770 uses the new NB-5L battery (as opposed to the 4L in the SD1100) so the battery life is expected to be slightly longer. It can also go to higher ISO, so theoretically should be able to take better low-light pictures.

Please let me know how you included 16GB memory card along with the camera. When I included, the price of memory card is shown separately apart from $159.72. It will be helpful if you can provide the link of 16GB card.

I added the "Kingston 16 GB SD4/16GB Secure Digital High Capacity Card", the one that's $29.99 from Amazon.com that ships in 3-5 weeks, and didn't see any discount. What'd I do wrong?

you are doing anything wrong. the deal is 4GB free now
add the 4GB and it will come out as free after discount.

I just tried it and 4GB still works, so I guess they closed the hole that was letting people get away with 8GB and 16GB. You can buy 4GB for less than $10 anytime so it's more advantageous, price-wise at least, to buy a camera from eBay using 30% MS Live CB.

yeah, the 4gb doesnt come up free for me either. Comes to 170.93 total.

Yep! They plugged the hole. It was working an hour or so ago now
