----------UPDATE-------------
Looks like the price is still good at Amazon AND Newegg.
Should last throughout the day, not sure about tomorrow though.

---------ORIGINAL------------

This is part of Amazon's Black Friday weekend.
Different deals each day Thursday through Sunday.

Today they have amongst the deals a Western Digital Velociraptor 300GB 10,000rpm SATA Drive.
For those that dont know, this is arguably the fastest desktop hard drive on the planet and no gamer should be without one.

Price is $229.99 with free Super Saver Shipping
No Tax for me in Southern California
Mail in Rebate for $30 (WD has had these MIRs on this drive for the past few months)
Total Price = 199.99.

Compare to Frys Electronics who had this same drive last week in their Friday ad for $249.99 and even that was a good price.

Enjoy, and happy gaming!

WOAH, I just went to compare the price on Newegg and I see they have the exact same deal going on.
So if you dont like Amazon, or you get taxed at Amazon but not Newegg, you can do this same deal over there!
Dont know how long the Newegg deal will last though.

Great deal. Note: the WD3000GLFS model WILL NOT fit in a SATA backplate/hotswap bay because its SATA connectors are in weird locations. If you have a SATA backplate/hotswap bay, get the WD3000HLFS which is the SATA backplate ready velociraptor

I honestly have to say, Amazon is one of my favorite sites now. I live in Cali so....when all the deals usually happen on sites, they are sites located in california. Amazon is the one site not located in cali that also has consistent deals for people similar to Newegg that I dont have to pay tax on. I love it. Amazon seems to really be competing. They have the same corsair 4gb kit I wanted as well for $24AR. Also have the same WD 640GB AAKS HD I wanted for the exact same price as Newegg. Its great.

In terms of the raptor, thats pretty sick. I remember when I woulda paid that for the 150GB old raptor. Now, I dunno. Its hard for me to pull the trigger when you know prices are going to fall alot. Also, already having the old 74gb raptor as my main, and being able to get 640GB hd for $70 it makes it hard to pull the trigger.

I have purchased three of these velociraptors and all three failed!!!

WD is now replacing all RMAs with new drives WD3000HLFS.

The new drives seem to fix the problems, but not worth the trouble in my opinion, just wait for intel SSD in coming months!

I used to swear by Newegg, but won't speak so positive anymore. They absolutely suck if you want to purchase something as a present for someone else and get it directly shipped. They require that you add the address of the recieving person as a valid address with your credit card company. What a crock of %?#*.

These are drives that I've heard of very very little failure rate so this sounds like a total fluke (shipping damage, power surge, incompatible with your setup).

I've been running one myself for about a month and I purchased a second one for a new machine based on the deal above. Havent heard of any such failure rates like the other person mentioned.

I also grabbed a D-Link DGS-2208 (I think that's the model anyway) which is an 8 port Gig Switch for only $29.99

How hard is it to replace the hard drive from the Studio XPS deal? Just reinstall the OS, assuming they packaged the dvd?

$119 was a good deal. Not too green for me at $200.

Use something like Symantec GHOST. Install the new drive as a secondary drive. Clone the current C: drive to the new drive. Shut down the computer. Remove or disconnect all drives except the new drive. Connect it to the SATA cable that was previously in use for the C: drive.

Reboot the computer. Make sure it works OK and that the new drive now shows up in Disk Manager as C:.

When you are sure it is working, shut down again and connect the remaining drives. Reboot, use Disk Manager to adjust the drive letters if needed.

it is very very easy. all you need to do is remove the old one, pop in the new one and reinstall the os from the packaged dvd

It was never $119, it was a price mistake.

OIC, so aside from that, this is still the best price I have ever seen these drives

lol $200 for a 300gb HDD? Who cares if it spins at 10k RPM, Id rather get 2TB @ 7.2k RPM for $200, then 300gb.
