Orders being cancelled. Be sure to post your experiences here: http://www.resellerratings.com/store/Central_Computers

December 11th 2008

Dear Customer,

Once again, I would like to apologize for the confusion regarding your recent Linksys order. All sales and promotional rebates are effective so long as supplies last and demand for this product completely overwhelmed our stock and that of our suppliers. The manufacturer%u2019s rebate was created to help liquidate a small amount (16 units) of inventory at our retail stores. Shortly after that, our distributor intiated a short term price drop, which was reflected on our website%u2019s price. We attempted to order inventory from our distributor, but we were not able to, as we were notified that these two promotions were not authorized to act concurrently.. Understanding that this had become a problem, we contacted the manufacturer and distributor in hopes of finiding out a resolution. Although we could not acquire the full amount we needed, we were able to secure an additional 150 units to provide the customers who were the first to order.

The delay in notification was due to the length of time it took to negotiate with our vendors to try and secure new stock at the promotional price. We regret not notifying our customers earlier about the situation. We hope that you will understand that this was not some sort of "bait-and-switch" situation or deceptive promotion. We were simply overwhelmed by unexpected demand and tried our best to meet it, but could not get enough supplies from our vendors to do so.

We understand that this notification comes much later than it should have and we regret the inconvenience that this causes. Along with a full refund of any payments made, we would like to offer you a $10 gift card effective for any purchase in our stores or on our website. And, if you would be placing a mail order, we would like to offer you free shipping on your next order.

While we would love to fulfill all orders at the promotional price, we would have to lose tens of thousands of dollars to do so. As a small chain of independent stores struggling to survive in a world of national chains and online discounters, this is simply not something we can afford to do. We hope you can understand our situation in this matter.

We will be emailing you a gift card number and instructions shortly.

Again, we apologize for the late notice and for not being able to obtain additional supply to fulfill all orders on this promotion. If you have additional concerns or complaints regarding this situation, please contact me with them.

This is a great deal, but I see that the rebate goes to Central Computers. Has anyone received rebates from them in the past?

I have (2) DMA2100's which I paid around $80 each for on eBay after Live CB. I've been satisfied and this is so cheap it is tempting to pickup a 3rd. $16 shipping and the large rebate is helping me resist though (if they were local I would definitely bite). For those that do pick one up be sure and update the firmware (a painless process once you have it hooked up to your home network).

IF you want an in-store pickup, you need to call. I'm interested in this, but $17 in shipping AND the huge rebate makes me look away... I guess if I was in CA, tax would be close to shipping for me... oh well.

Good post though OP!!!

Linksys rebates were one of the quickest rebates I received, but yes $125 is huge.

I picked one of these up 2 weeks ago with the Newegg deal. It isn't a bad device, and it is well made. But at the end of the day it just didn't work for me because of poor codec support (no idea why, but I ended up having quite a lot of video files it refused to play, including stuff I had used TiVo Desktop to convert to mpeg4). It's also really sluggish. Not a bad device, and the price is certainly right. I'd had been mighty pissed if I had paid the original retail price for it...

The DVD player portion was really good, but the crappy remote was useless, unless you point it directly at the unit, it won't work.

so, does it have a wireless router in it, or does it need one?

Tempting with media center extenders are always a hit and miss proposition. You are better off using an XBos 360 as a media extender any day...

I use my PS3 and Tversity as a media extender and it rox and plays most files.

Does anybody know whether it is a standard drive in there? I'm thinking of replacing it with the LG BD/HD combo drive. That way I can use it in the watching area for it to stream ripped movies from the server as well as watch BD/HD on the fly.

Cheers!
