Just checked to see Circuit City (online) has the Samsung LN40A500 for $799.99 (1099.99 - $300 instant off). This is the Black Friday TV sold in other places like Sears and BB for $798, so not too bad of a deal. I just checked the LA zip codes and the items are available for in-store pick-up (no home delivery, though). Some things to sweeten this further:

A. 10% discount for AAA members (NOT in the blackout period anymore; details)
$799.99 - 10% + $10 CA Electronic Recycling Fee + CA Tax ~= $796

B. 2% CashBack through FatWallet
$799.99 + $10 CA Electronic Recycling Fee + CA Tax - 2% CB ~= $873

Couldn't find any Live.com CashBack.

LINK

EDIT: Added $10 CA Electronic Recycling Fee for CA residents

Got this the Sunday before Black Friday at CC, glad I didn't have to wait in the Chicago cold! Was able to get Live CashBack (at least pending so far). Love the TV but still problems adjusting the picture. Should I use HDMi cables instead of regular ones?

I haven't seen this particular model up close, but I've seen the other models (LN40A550, LN46A550, LN46A630) and they're sub-par (at best, so-so) with non-HD content (the most notable imperfection being interlaced lines, for the lack of the better word, in the images) in rendering 480p sources. The only time I've really been able to appreciate it fully is by using HD content.

You need to use HDMI cables. You'll get a much better picture.
