Np, I remember the days when $1/GB was standard or good deal on HDD, and now you can get 3TB for $200 (about $.07/GB), crazy

Beware, as these drives do not work in RAID, as per reviews on Newegg, and Tom's Hardware. Actually, it's all over the net. That's why Dell is dumping them so cheaply.

I have 8 of these in my QNAP TS809 running RAID 6. I haven't seen any freezing on them in the 3 months I've been running my box, of course I'm only using it to stream Blu-rays but so far no issues.
These drives from Dell should be the CC1H firmware.

How do you know what firmware they will be? I would be all over this, as I'm in need of a RAID array, but do not want any hassles.

I've order a number of these from Dell in the last few months. The ones I received 2 weeks ago were CC1H, the ones a few months back were CC1H as well.

The reviews on Newegg are as recent as yesterday. Many people getting bricks! I'm thinking twice about this. It's always a crap shoot with any drive, but this seems to have more than their share of problems, and that's why they are so cheap. If you're lucky enough to get good ones, you are golden!
If you read the first couple pages, half the people are getting defective drives.....

Beware you are likely to run into a lot of hearsay posts trashing these Seagate 1.5TB drives from totally ignorant non-owners in these FW threads! They have even been known to cite biased non-verified Newegg user reviews also most written by non-onwers. Some even go so far as to cite reputable hardware sites to make their point even though the site has offically gone on record with an opposing view of those trashign these drives! For Example...Toms had reviewed this drive back on October 2 of this year, and we did not find any issue similar to alleged problems

Yet more internet fud ! If you read the reviews of ANY drive on Newegg you will find similar reviews posted. If you don't believe it just look at Newegg reviews for Western Digital's new 1.5 and 2TB drives. Bottom line any site that allows non-validated user reviews without any requirement to even own the product they are reviewing IMO are totally worthless.

I wonder how many of those reviews are even legit. Anyone can write a review. It would be more meaningful if they were verifiable owners/purchasers. I've bought a ton of these drives in the last few months, as have coworkers. Every drive manufactured since late January has the CC1H firmware. So I have pretty direct experience with about 10 of these, and no issues whatsoever. Take it for what it's worth, but I will keep buying them. Those negative reviews are just making this drive an incredible value IMO.

I don't have an opinion one way or the other about these drives, I'm only going by what I read. Why would people manufacture negative reviews? Are the positive reviews also suspect?

You have to explain that to my computer, which is running two of these drives as a mirrored pair.

Newegg shipping just sucks. I think its a problem with their cheap packaging. Dell came in the precut foam that prevents the drives from knocking against each other.
