OK, we got a GE 6000 btu window unit for our bedroom and I hate it. It's supposed to be one of the quietest models, and it is for 80 percent of the time, the other 20 percent it's making a horrible pinging sound, apparently it's designed to do that by having water drops fall on the fan. I need something more consistent, I don't care if the fan is loud as long as the noise is consistent, like the box fan I have running all night. Any ideas?? how about the Frigidaire's??

Most people in our neighborhood swear by Panasonics. I thought they were fools at first and rebelled by buying some POS special of the week at HD and regretted it deeply -- loud, occasional strange noises. Ditched that and went with a Panasonic never looking back. They just work quietly and efficiently. Costs more, but well worth it just by saving by sanity alone.

I have two Panasonic room A/C's and like them alot. They are fairly quiet and reliable. Both are the same model -one is through the wall and the other is in the window (two seperate rooms obviously).

You may want to look into FRIEDRICH - most of which use a Panasonic (Matsushita Electric) compressor.
