New York-based JetBlue is looking for 1,000 of its frequent flyers to show up at JFK on August 23 to check bags given to them by the airline, go through security and wait at the assigned gate for their imaginary "flight."

In return, the airline is promising unspecified "giveaways," free parking and lunch.

This is probably some sort of program used to train new employees.

Then they can board the imaginary plane, and sit on the imaginary tarmac for 8 hours with no food or drink (real or imaginary). Lucky fliers will get to sit on the imaginary toilet for the duration of their "flight".

So let me get this straight.

I go to JFK and a stranger who I never met before (redundant I know) will hand me a piece of luggage to "train" their employees.

Why can i imagine myself being given a bag with a knife to test the employee and while I get taken away my police I'll yell "but I saw this offer on Fatwallettttttt!!!!!!"

Yes a "JetBlue" Employee will hand you an unknown bag that you must carry through security. Then that "JetBlue" employee will ask for the bag back once you get through and give you a drink and a cookie. I don't think I would ever participate in anything that involves strangers handing me something at an airport.

This makes absolutely no sense. Do you have a link? I would love to see where you found this. I don't think JFK would be willing to let 1000 people add to the already rediculously long lines just to train or test employees.

The secret prize is.......

an all expense paid trip to GUANTANAMO BAY! Length of stay to be determined at some future date.

And if you've seen Harold & Kumar 2, you know what kind of sandwich is waiting for you there.

This was a story on reuters.

Sounds like a long day...why would anybody want to go through that for lunch, parking, and the possibility of a prize?!

Wonder how many will show up...

I don't think that it is to train employees- they are testing their new terminal out before they "go live" with it

alert mods

I hope the bag does not have any coke hidden in it.

Maybe that is the "prize"

All kidding aside, it is smart for an airline to test out the system before going live. See British Airways for an example of where they implemented a new terminal without full-scale testing.

FYI everyone, Jetblue sent this message out to only a select group of their FF members. The event has already booked up solid.

alert mods

Man, I wish I had that kind of free time to spend a day hauling luggage through JFK for lunch, free parking and "unspecified giveways".

I got the e-mail also and though I am a big Blue fan, I could not think of any reason to go to that cluster^$%k of an airport to test out their new terminal. If they were offering free flights, maybe.

Gotta love the american marketing ingenuity. Can you imagine if JetBlue just posted a Wanted Ad - "People needed to haul luggage in JFK for terminal system testing. Free lunch and parking, unspecified pay". Ha!!! There would be unions marching on the streets and demanding to stop labor abuse. But someone has a clever idea. Send an email with the same content to a list of "select" customers with an invitation to an "exclusive" event. And the drones line up.
